Faculty profile

The Faculty of Health Care of the University of Prešov was established in accordance with Act No. 131/2002 Coll. Higher Education and on Changes and Amendments to Certain Laws as amended, following the decision of the Accreditation Commission and the Academic Senate of the University of Prešov No. 57/2002 of  24 June 2002.

The Faculty of Health Care offers education in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, dental hygiene and rescue health care in 3-year full-time and part-time bachelor study programmes, nursing and physiotherapy in 2-year full-time and part-time master  study programmes.

The Faculty of Health Care has right to award the academic degree of “Bachelor” and "Master". Contents of the study programmes comply with the European Commission Directives applying to the regulated and partly regulated professions. The mission of Faculty is education and development of harmonic and creative personalities. The Faculty staff leads students to tolerance, health confidence, respect, development of science, culture and health.

 

Study Programmes

The faculty focuses on education in 3 year bachelor study programmes of Nursing and Midwifery since September 2002/2003. Since the academic year 2004/2005 the faculty has been granted the right to award the Bachelor degree to graduates in Physiotherapy and Dental Hygiene, and since 2005/2006 to graduates in the study program Rescue Health Care. Since 2007/2008 faculty has been granted the right to award the Master degree to graduates inPhysiotherapy and Nursing (2 years study programmes. Enrollment for the above study programmes can be full-time or part-time. A half of study load in every course consists of practical training of students in c linical departments of the J. A. Reiman Teaching Faculty and community health care facilities. Having completed the Bachelor level students can take master study programmes at other faculties of the University of Prešov (i.e. Management), or at faculties and universities providing accredited master courses in the relevant study fields (nursing, physiotherapy). Faculty offers PhD programm in Nursing. Since the academic year 2014/2015 faculty offers bachelor programm in Laboratory and diagnostics methods in health care.

Types of study:

· full-time 
· part-time

Criteria for admission:

· graduation from a secondary school, General Certificate of Education 
· good health condition 
· passing the entrance exam consisting of: test of biology, fitness test, test for giftedness

Organization of the academic year:

· winter and summer semester lasting 13 – 15 weeks in dependence on the study programme 
· exam period lasting 4 - 6 weeks 
· students have to obtain 60 credits (ECTS) per academic year

- practical state examination 
- thesis deffence
- theoretical state examination
