Laboratory Testing Methods in Health Care

The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Prešov is an institution whose main task is to educate students in accredited non-medical study programmes at the level of contemporary knowledge, scientific and research results.



Prospects of graduates

The graduates of the Laboratory Investigation Methods in Healthcare programme are qualified healthcare professionals with a broad professional profile.

A graduate of the study programme is prepared:

- perform laboratory investigations according to standard analytical methods designed to detect changes under physiological and pathological conditions

- apply the acquired knowledge and skills to solve work problems independently

-provide professional first aid

- apply modern methods and working style

- participate in teamwork, workplace organisation and management

The aim is to prepare graduates with the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

- Graduates have a basic understanding of the decision-making processes involved in the indication of all laboratory investigations common to the various medical disciplines, including those that have both a clinical and laboratory component

- know how to collaborate with experts in those medical disciplines that share common investigative components in the application of special diagnostic algorithms

- they know how to analyze and synthesize the knowledge gained so that their actions will facilitate clinical and therapeutic activities for the benefit of the patient.

The basic aim of the study is to acquire, within three or four years, the practical and theoretical qualification for the profession: health laboratory technician.

Conditions of admission

Criteria for admission to study/external form of study - without entrance exam.

Applicants for external study will be admitted after fulfilling the prescribed conditions:

1. complete secondary vocational education completed by matriculation examination in the field of study:

- medical laboratory technician

2. employment at the time of applying for studies in the position of medical laboratory technician at the established weekly working hours
3. employer's confirmation of employment - to be attached to the application
4. professional experience of at least 1 year in the field of study of medical laboratory technician

5. meeting the criteria of medical fitness for the profession according to the Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic No.364/2009, which establishes the criteria of medical fitness for applicants for medical study fields (applicants shall attach to the application form a recommendation of a medical practitioner for study in the given fieldcompleted secondary education with a high school diploma in the field of study:

Notice:

The Dean of FZO PU reserves the possibility to modify the organization of the admission procedure depending
on the number of applicants. In case of a lower number of applicants for study in the external form, meeting the conditions of admission (less than 15), the faculty will not open the study in the 1st year of the external form in the academic year 2023/2024. The application form and fees will be refunded to the applicant.



Conditions for international students

Foreign students must pass the admission procedure, namely written test in biology and chemistry within the scope of the grammar school curriculum (in Slovak language)

In addition to the application form, foreign students must also provide proof of recognition of completed education. The decision on recognition of education from a foreign secondary school will be issued by the Regional Education Office in the Slovak Republic.

The following documents shall be submitted with the application: certificate of medical fitness, curriculum vitae, high school diploma, curriculum vitae and proof of payment of the admission fee.



General information on the admission exam

INFORMATION FOR BAKALAR STUDY

1/ Application for Undergraduate Studies:

a) Paper application form (admission fee 35 EUR): applicants purchase the university application form intended for undergraduate studies at the form shops, fill in all parts of it thoroughly, attach other required documents and send it to the address of the Faculty of Health Professions of PU

b) Electronic form of application (admission fee 30 EUR) Applicants fill in and submit the electronic application form on the website of the University of Presov https://mais.unipo.sk/eprihlaska/pages/odosielatel/rozhranie_odosielatela.mais. Subsequently, it is necessary to print out the submitted electronic application form, attach all other required documents and send it by post to the address of the Faculty of Health Sciences of PU. Without receiving the printed electronic application form together with the additional documents, the electronic application form is invalid and the applicant will not be included in the admission procedure.

3/ The application form should be uploaded:

  • original receipt of payment of the admission fee or proof of bank transfer
  • certified copy of the matriculation certificate (if you are graduating in the current school year, you will submit the MV as soon as you have passed the matriculation exams),

  • recommendation from a medical practitioner for studies in the given field
  • certification from the employer on the job classification and length of professional experience
  • structured curriculum vitae
  • application form must be signed in the applicant's own handwriting (page 3)

4/ In case the applicant wants to apply for more study programmes at the Faculty of Physical Education PU in Prešov, he/she must submit a separate application for each study programme separately and pay the application fee for each application separately.

5/Only the applicant who submits a duly completed application form, encloses all required attachments and pays the admission fee within the set deadline will be invited to the admission examinations.

6/ The admission fee will not be refunded by the faculty.

8/ ALL REQUIREMENTS LISTED ARE REQUIRED AND APPLICATION WITHOUT THEM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED !!!

9/ The external form of study is charged according to Act No.131/2002 on Higher Education and its amendment No.363/2007 Coll. The amount of tuition fees is published on the faculty's website http://www.unipo.sk/fakulta-zdravotnictva

The length of study in the study programme in the external form at the bachelor's degree is 3 years.
