Faculty profile

The main mission of the Comenius University, Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava is to educate doctors who understand their profession primarily as a mission. Such an approach obliges the Faculty of Medicine to become not only a teaching base providing the opportunity to acquire quality knowledge at the current level of medical science, but also an institution shaping the moral and personal profile of its graduates. In addition, FMCU is a base for scientific research work, which enables it to convey to its students’ knowledge that originates from their alma mater, thus contributing to the formation of the relationship between the student and the faculty. The mission of the Faculty of Medicine in the field of therapeutic and preventive medicine is to represent the application of the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in everyday medical practice, which should significantly exceed the usual national and, in some areas, European average.

FMCU is a leading institution of medical education. The role of the Faculty of Medicine is the undergraduate education of students, in the framework of which they receive general medical education. Teaching of general medicine and dentistry takes place in both Slovak and English. FMCU provides higher education not only in the field of undergraduate education, but also postgraduate education in the form of study programs in specialization studies in the medical profession, training courses and doctoral studies. The training of new researchers takes the form of doctoral studies, which take two forms: full-time and part-time. The Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University in Bratislava is thus an institution of lifelong medical education.
