Mechanical Engineering
Characteristics
A graduate of the Mechanical Engineering study program acquires the knowledge necessary for the work of a designer, technologist and worker in the entire chain of design, production, sale and operation of machines and machinery. He has experience with calculation methods, he has knowledge of the properties of materials, he is familiar with production technologies and basic economic relations and management in production. In the study program, emphasis is placed on the connection between the design of the engineering product and its production phase and operation. The graduate is proficient in computer technology and basic CAD/CAM/CAE software. He can model machines and machinery, simulate and optimize their behavior, implement the design of technological processes and maintenance.
Aims of education
A graduate of the 2nd degree of the Mechanical Engineering study program in the Mechanical Engineering field of study has deep cross-sectional knowledge in the specialized field, including knowledge of contexts and relations to related fields, knows and understands the theories, methods and procedures used in the field, with possible application in science and research. He can actively acquire new knowledge, formulate new hypotheses, evaluate theories, propose new or innovate existing concepts and implement new procedures and knowledge obtained on the basis of his own complex analysis or scientific research. He can creatively solve theoretical and practical tasks using experimental approaches and computational tools, he can formulate recommendations for the development of a given scientific or work area.
Graduate of the study program:
- is characterized by innovative, creative thinking,
- can identify and solve technical problems,
- coordinate procedures in teams and make independent and responsible decisions in a changing environment,
- is able to present the results of his creative work in front of the professional community, communicate professional opinions, work on his own professional growth, participate in technical progress,
- has the prerequisites for managing projects in the phase of development, modification and innovation of technical equipment or construction,
- can design mechanical systems, analyze and optimize their properties,
- can carry out material research and research oriented to the field of applied mechanics,
- is ready to take responsibility for his activities and decisions, taking into account wider social consequences.
Prospects of graduates
Learning Outcomes
By completing specialized subjects, the graduate will acquire detailed knowledge of the mechanics of rigid and flexible bodies and the environment. They will learn to perform stress-deformation analyzes of parts, machines, equipment, means of transport and structures, analyze their dynamic properties and behavior, assess their technical condition in terms of safety, operability, remaining life, or identify possible malfunctions and damage using various methods and means experimental and numerical mechanics. He will understand materials, their behavior, he will be able to perform material tests in order to identify material parameters and mechanical properties, and he will be able to create material models. The graduate will acquire knowledge in the field of computer modeling, while learning to effectively use modern software tools for the analysis of mechanical systems and structures. During his studies, he will gain practical experience with Ansys, Abaqus, NX Nastran, MSC.Adams, Solidworks, Matlab and Simulink applications, which are commonly used in engineering practice. He will become familiar with modern measuring devices and techniques that are used in stress-strain analyzes of structural elements and components, in the measurement of modal parameters, in vibrodiagnostics and vibration analysis, in the quantification of residual stresses or in the measurement of kinematic quantities of moving bodies. He will be able to design measuring chains, independently carry out measurements, process measured data and subsequently implement and verify the obtained results. He will deepen his knowledge in the field of theoretical and applied mathematics, digital signal processing, programming, design, production, progressive technologies, management and logistics. The content focus of the study program creates prerequisites for application in scientific research, development and design organizations operating mainly in the engineering, automotive, aviation, energy and consumer industries, or gives the graduate the opportunity to continue his doctoral studies.
