Mechanical Engineering

Characteristics

Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Mechanical Engineering will find employment as designers, production technologists, maintenance workers, specialists in testing and test facilities and also as quality engineers in production. Graduates are prepared to work in design offices, manufacturing companies with a mechanical engineering focus, in the supply sector of the automotive industry, in companies with in-house development of new products, in service operations and companies focused on the sale of mechanical engineering products.

Learning objectives

The first degree of the Mechanical Engineering study programme within the Mechanical Engineering field of study is designed to educate students for the second degree of higher education, and the vast majority of graduates also continue their higher education studies in the second degree. The structure of a strong science, technology and language foundation creates the prerequisites for successful continuation of studies in the second cycle.
The graduate has a cross-cutting knowledge of the field with a focus on application at a level appropriate to the current state of knowledge, has a broad knowledge and understanding of the specialised field, including knowledge of practical contexts and relationships to related fields, can actively acquire information and use it to solve practical tasks in the field, can solve practical tasks in the field using common research and development procedures with critical assessment of their suitability and appropriateness, can solve professional tasks and coordinate sub-activities and take responsibility for the results of the team, can identify and evaluate ethical, social and other contexts of solved problems, can independently acquire new knowledge and actively expand their knowledge.
Graduate of the study program:
- demonstrates knowledge and understanding in the field of study that builds on general secondary education and is typically at the level of advanced textbooks supplemented by selected aspects of the latest knowledge in the field of study,
- can apply their knowledge and understanding in a manner indicative of a professional approach to work and/or the profession and has competencies typically demonstrated by posing and defending arguments and solving problems in the field of study,
- has the ability to gather and interpret relevant data in the field of study and to make ethically and socially responsible decisions based on that data,
- can communicate information, concepts, problems and solutions to professional and lay audiences,
- has developed the learning skills necessary to pursue further study with a high degree of independence.
