Biomedical Engineering

Characteristics

The graduate of BMI has a thorough knowledge of modern technical means of biomedical engineering, knows the principles of their operation, the conditions of their operation and their safe use for diagnostic, implantation and therapeutic purposes. He/she has knowledge of theoretical and selected clinical medical disciplines to understand the aim of application of technical means. He/she is also able to assess the performance of technical and computer-aided equipment in the given conditions of medical facilities or other manufacturing plants and laboratories, while being able to communicate competently with physicians and engineers.

Graduates of the Biomedical Engineering study program are qualified to work in the following professions:
- independent creative engineer with application in production, clinical practice and in related business and service organizations;
- independent creative engineer with application in support technology centers for the disabled and in related business and service organizations;
- development, scientific and research worker, especially in biological, biophysical, biomechanical laboratories and in the field of computer-supported technologies in interdisciplinary research teams,
- senior management worker in production and medical facilities,
- teacher and researcher at universities.

Aims of education

The graduate has extensive professional and methodological knowledge of the field, especially in areas such as the design, development and production of medical devices and equipment, their categorization, verification and validation. He masters the theoretical foundations of phenomena in medical electronics, in the measurement of electrical and non-electrical quantities, biomechanics, in the development of biomaterials, digitization technologies and medical digital production technologies. Depending on personal interest in the field, he can acquire knowledge and skills using laboratory instrumentation, he can record, analyze and evaluate measured data and draw conclusions based on the knowledge gained.

The qualification of the second degree of university studies in the Biomedical Engineering study program is awarded to students who:
- demonstrate practical and methodological knowledge from the key areas of the field, which will serve as a basis for practice, or research activity in the field of engineering sciences and life sciences
- demonstrate the ability to modify general and specialist knowledge when solving specific problems
- are able to creatively use methods, tools, devices and materials
- demonstrate the ability to implement solutions to methodological, professional or practical problems in medical and bioengineering practice
- are able to find an optimal solution by using methods, techniques and a systemic approach to solving problems.
