Learning objectives of the study programme

To acquire advanced skills and habits that will lead to a reasoned and critical knowledge of the past and to apply the ability to communicate this knowledge clearly in the educational process.

To acquire a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural history of human society as a basis for practice in the teaching profession.

Identify, locate and evaluate historical sources and sources of information. Critically engage with primary and secondary literature.Appropriately evaluate historical argumentation and historical narrative.

Interpret evidence and historical argumentation, develop more complex historical explanations, apply relevant methods and theories of historical research. Independently formulate conclusions and present them in oral and written form.

To know the basic principles and content of teaching history in primary and secondary schools, closely linking their own experience of teaching history and making use of the knowledge acquired in the pedagogical background.

The graduate of the Master's degree programmeHistory Teacher Training in CombinedHistory Teacher Training has a full university education at the second level in the field of studyTeaching and Educational Sciences.The graduate of the Master's degree programmeHistory Teacher Training is qualified to be a teacher of the subject of history. He has a deep theoretical knowledge of the process of socialization and education. He/she knows the contents of general education and the content of the subject of history. In addition to his/her competence as a teacher, he/she is able to participate in the development of methodological materials for teaching. The graduate is capable of exercising independently the profession of a teacher at the level of lower and upper secondary education. He/she is able to design, implement and reflect on educational activities within his/her subject specialisation. The graduate of the Master's degree in Teacher Education is qualified to be a teacher of subjects belonging to his/her subject specialisation. The graduate can act as a teacher of relevant subjects at the level of lower and upper secondary education, as a methodologist for the teaching of specific subjects and subject groups.

HISTORY
- obtaining a first (bachelor's) degree or a second (master's/engineering/doctoral) degree;
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;
- in the case of the teaching degree programme, fulfill the requirements also from the second subject combination (in the case of the subjects offered by the KU PF, the requirements are published on pf.ku.sk);
- in the case of a teacher study programme, obtaining a qualification that can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences defined by the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences (as a rule, this is the completion of the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences, which also includes the Bachelor's degree in Teaching of Subjects in Combination)
- in the case of a teacher study programme
The final ranking of applicants will be based on the result of the state examination.
Additional information
The KU Faculty of Arts also offers the possibility of inter-faculty teaching combinations, i.e. the candidate can choose one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Arts and one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Education (accredited study programmes of the Faculty of Arts can be found at http://pf.ku.sk). Applicants for interfaculty programmes must meet the admission requirements from both teaching subject specialisations.
For the music education and art education teacher specialization programs, successful completion of a talent exam is required.
The Faculty also reserves the right not to open a study programme for which a low number of candidates apply. In this case, the application forms with all attachments as well as the admission fee will be returned to the applicant.
Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request to be sent together with the application form).

The application form must be accompanied by:
a) a confirmation of payment of the fee;
b) in the case of applicants for the study programme TEACHER OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in combination, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and who have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (Bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, also a certificate proving the level of proficiency in the Slovak language at the level of at least B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Literature.
The following documents should be delivered to the study department (preferably at the time of application if possible):
a) certified copies of documents of graduation (Bachelor's/Master's/Engineering/Doctoral diploma, supplement to the diploma and certificate of state examination), whereas applicants who have been issued with documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (previous studies were completed at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;
b)in the case of applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad, also a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for the purpose of studying in the Slovak Republic.
Information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or paper mail.
