Learning objectives of the study programme

  1. To acquire an expanded knowledge and deepened understanding of selected areas of philosophy and the social sciences, taking into account the teaching nature of the programme of study.

  1. Consolidate and expand skills in interpreting scholarly texts, distinguishing facts from opinions, and making responsible decisions.

  1. Deepen the ability to present key knowledge, formulate problems in the form of questions and offer reasoned and argument-based solutions, taking into account the different age and intellectual abilities of the target groups.

  1. To acquire practical skills and competencies related to working in schools and educational settings, and more generally in the education of children, young people and adults.

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the Master's degree programme in Philosophy Teacher Training in Combined Studieshas a complete university education in the field of Teaching and Educational Sciences.The graduate has acquired more advanced knowledge and skills necessary for a teacher of philosophy in terms of the subjects of the Doctrine of Society, Civics, Civic Education: a comprehensive overview of the major philosophical disciplines, as well as selected authors, trends and issues. It has advanced knowledge of philosophical inquiry and philosophical problem solving. In addition to mastering teaching competence (designing, implementing and reflecting on classroom teaching), he is able to participate in the development of methodological materials for teaching. The graduate has studied philosophy in the context of the pursuit of the dialogue of reason and faith in the spirit of the Catholic intellectual tradition.As a graduate of the Master's program in Teacher Education, he has a deep theoretical knowledge of the process of socialization and education. He has mastered the contents of general education and the contents of the disciplines of his specialization. In addition to teaching competence, he/she is able to participate in the development of methodological materials for teaching. The graduate is capable of exercising independently the teaching profession at the lower and upper secondary level. He/she is able to design, implement and reflect on educational activities within his/her subject specialisation. He/she has knowledge and experience in the field of research methodology in educational sciences in general and in the didactics of his/her subject specialisation.

The graduate can teach subjects - social studies, civics, civic education - at the level of lower and upper secondary education, be a methodologist of the relevant subjects, a specialized employee of the state administration for the field of education and education in primary and secondary schools.

- obtaining a first (bachelor's) degree or a second (master's/engineering/doctoral) degree;
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;
- in the case of the teaching degree programme, fulfill the requirements also from the second subject combination (in the case of the subjects offered by the KU PF, the requirements are published on pf.ku.sk);
- in the case of a teacher study programme, obtaining a qualification that can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences defined by the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences (as a rule, this is the completion of the Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Educational Sciences, which also includes the Bachelor's degree in Teaching of Subjects in Combination)

The final ranking of applicants will be based on the result of the state examination.



Additional information

The KU Faculty of Arts also offers the possibility of inter-faculty teaching combinations, i.e. the candidate can choose one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Arts and one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Education (accredited study programmes of the Faculty of Arts can be found at http://pf.ku.sk). Applicants for interfaculty programmes must meet the admission requirements from both teaching subject specialisations.

For the music education and art education teacher specialization programs, successful completion of a talent exam is required.

The Faculty also reserves the right not to open a study programme for which a low number of candidates apply. In this case, the application forms with all attachments as well as the admission fee will be returned to the applicant.

Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request to be sent together with the application form).

A candidate can submit:

Attention! If the applicant submits the application via portalvs.sk, the application must also be sent in paper form to the address of the faculty. In this case, the fee for material support of the admission procedure is 30 €. We therefore recommend using e-prihlaska.ku.sk, not portalvs.sk.

The application form must be accompanied by:
a) a confirmation of payment of the fee;
b) in the case of applicants for the study programme TEACHER OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in combination, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and who have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (Bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, also a certificate proving the level of proficiency in the Slovak language at the level of at least B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Literature.

The following documents should be delivered to the study department (preferably at the time of application if possible):
a) certified copies of documents of graduation (Bachelor's/Master's/Engineering/Doctoral diploma, supplement to the diploma and certificate of state examination), whereas applicants who have been issued with documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (previous studies were completed at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;
b)in the case of applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad, also a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for the purpose of studying in the Slovak Republic.

Information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or paper mail.
