Learning objectives of the study programme 

1. To acquire language skills (receptive, productive, interactive) and communication language competencies (, pragmatic and socio-linguistic) in English at levelC2according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languagesas a standard for English language teachers in lower and upper secondary education. 

2.To acquire and further expand systematic and comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in English linguistics (stylistics, semantics, historical development of the language) with emphasis on their communicative use and application in the educational process. 

3.To expand and systematize knowledge about the history of English literature in a broader historical, cultural and social context. To deepen professional knowledge of the methodology of literarytheory, literary comparative studies and mastery of interpretive techniques and procedures, the core of whichweremastered at the bachelor'slevel. 

4.To gain in-depth systematic knowledge of the methodology of teaching Englishlanguageand literature in primary and secondary schools. To learn to professionally model, plan, organize, manage, control and diagnose the educational process. To acquire and systematize the skills necessary for successful management of the teaching process and in close connection with professional ethics and morals to learn to evaluate yourselfwith the aimof developing self-reflexive competencies, in the perspective of lifelong learning and gainingone’sown authentic teacher profile. 

5.To deepen the professional and methodological knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for independent formulation of an intellectualproblem and analytical thinking on a defined issue with subsequent output in the form of conclusions, suggestions and recommendations for optimal solution of the problem in English languageand literature teachingin theory and school practice.

K1the student knows and masters the structure of the English language,s/hehas a comprehensive overview of communication, language reception and interaction in the target language with regard to school practice 

K2 s/hehas a systematic knowledge of linguistic disciplines with emphasis on the historical development of the English language, stylistics and semantics of the English language 

K3s/hehas systematic knowledge in the field of literarytheory, comparative literature, interpretive techniques and history of English-language literature 

K4 s/heis familiar with the organization of institutional education,s/heis able to collect and interpret facts, develop thought processes and activities that are characteristic of scientifically designed teaching and learning 

K5 s/hehas systematic theoretical knowledge related to research in linguistics, literarytheoryand didactics of English language teaching andrelated towork with professional literature in the creation of an originalscholarlytext

Graduate profile 

The graduate of the master's study programme inTeaching of English Language and Literature in Combinationwill obtain a completesecondlevel university degree in thestudyfieldTeacher Training and Education Science.The graduate has extensiveintellectualknowledge in the profile educational areas (linguistics, literarytheory, culture,didacticsof teaching English). S/hecan useEnglish at a high practical level, both orally and in writteninteraction. S/he has deep systematic knowledge of the history of literature,methodologyof literary science and comparative literature. S/he deeply masters the starting points and trends of the theoretical and methodological perspective of teaching Englishlanguageand literature. The graduate iswell-educatedand didactically,methodologicallyand practically prepared for the performance of the teaching profession, as well as employment using the English language in words and writing in the cultural and economic field. The graduate is competent to professionally model, plan, organize, manage,controland diagnose the educational processand alsoto competently present the results ofher/hisown empirical-scientific observations, analyses,interpretationsor generalizationsto the professional community. S/heis able tocommunicate effectively and cooperate with the external environment. As a graduate of the master's degree programmeinteachings/hehas a deep theoretical knowledge of the process of socialization and education. S/he masters the content of general education and the content of the disciplines ofher/his specialization. In addition to teaching skills,s/he canparticipatein the creation of methodological materials for teaching. The graduate is qualified to practice independently as a teacher at the level of lowerand upper secondary education. S/he can design,implementand reflect on educational activities within her/his subject specialization. S/he has knowledge and experience in the field of researchmethodologyin educational sciences in general and in the didactics ofher/his subject specializations. A graduate of a master's degree in teacher training is qualified to be a teacher of subjectspertaining toher/his specialization. The graduate can act as a teacher of relevant subjects at the level of lower and upper secondary education, ass methodologistfor teaching specific subjects and subject groups.

JOURNALISM
- obtaining a university degree of the first (bachelor's) degree or the second (master's/engineering/doctoral) degree;
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;- in the case of teaching degree programs, proof of a university degree of at least a first (bachelor's) degree in "Teaching and Educational Sciences" or proof of passing the state examination in education;

- in the case of teacher study programmes in which one teaching subject is provided by the KU Faculty of Education, fulfil the admission requirements for this subject (the requirements are published on pf.ku.sk).

The final ranking of applicants will be based on the result of the state examination.



Additional information

The KU Faculty of Arts also offers the possibility of inter-faculty teaching combinations, i.e. the candidate can choose one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Arts and one subject from the offer of the KU Faculty of Education (accredited study programmes of the Faculty of Arts can be found at http://pf.ku.sk). Applicants for interfaculty programmes must meet the admission requirements from both teaching subject specialisations.

For the music education and art education teacher specialization programs, successful completion of a talent exam is required.

Handicapped applicants may request that the form and manner of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their handicap (written request to be sent with the application form).

General information on the admission exam

A candidate can submit:
NOW electronic application
- via e-prihlaska.ku.sk;
- such electronic application is not printed, signed, sent to the postal address of the faculty.

OR paper (not electronic) application
- such a paper (not electronic) application most often on the form ŠEVT is sent to the following address:

Attention! If the applicant submits the application via portalvs.sk, the application must also be sent in paper form to the address of the faculty. In this case, the fee for material support of the admission procedure is 35 €.

The application form must be accompanied by:
a) confirmation of payment of the fee;
b) in the case of applicants for the study programme TEACHER OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in combination with a second teaching subject, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, also a certificate proving the level of proficiency in the Slovak language at the level of at least B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Literature.

The following documents should be delivered to the study department (preferably at the time of application if possible):
a) certified copies of the documents of graduation (Bachelor's/Master's/Engineering/Doctoral diploma, supplement to the diploma and certificate of state examination), while applicants who have been issued the documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (previous studies were completed at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;
b)in the case of applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad, also a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for the purpose of studying in the Slovak Republic.

Information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or paper mail.

Deadline for verification of fulfilment of the admission requirements: by 15 June 2025

Written decision on the result of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of the fulfilment of the conditions of admission to the study. The written decision shall be delivered to the applicants in their own hands.
