Technologies of Mining and Tunneling
The Mining and Tunneling Technology study program will provide graduates with a broader professional profile, with comprehensive, high-quality knowledge of the principles of geological and hydrogeological dynamic phenomena of the earth's crust, as well as the principles of geomechanical manifestations of the rock massif, with the possibility of employment as a mining engineer, whose education is oriented towards the implementation of technical engineering, organizational, management and managerial activities, which are based on knowledge of the theoretical principles of geological and hydrogeological dynamic phenomena of the earth's crust, as well as the principles of geomechanical manifestations of the rock massif. A graduate of the Mining and Tunneling Technology study program independently proposes, implements and evaluates solutions to problems related to mining and underground geotechnics, extraction and treatment of mineral raw materials, geotechnological methods of obtaining raw materials, secondary use of the mine underground for non-mining technical purposes of storing waste and useful materials. It proposes solutions for long-term monitoring of the geoenvironment underground and on the surface, the use of ecological properties of natural mineral raw materials, building materials in industry associated with the preparation and construction of various mining and engineering works and objects or with geological exploration and mining-geological works. Formulates recommendations, procedures for solving professional problems and designs and implements projects to solve them. He has the professional, communication and management skills necessary for the performance of higher management functions. He can design and defend projects for solutions in the field of search and valuation of raw materials and also design complex technological processes. The cross-sectional nature of mining and tunneling does not exclude the employment of graduates in other branches of industry.
Prospects of graduates
The graduate of the study program is a professionally educated mining engineer, whose education is oriented towards the implementation of technical-engineering, organizational, management and managerial activities, which is based on knowledge of the theoretical principles of geological and hydrogeological dynamic phenomena of the earth's crust, as well as the principles of geomechanical manifestations of the rock massif. The basis of his engineering work is the knowledge of physical, mechanical, mathematical, statistical, optimization, model, computer and laboratory methods, with which he can analyze, model and assess deposit phenomena affecting the quality of mining. At the same time, he uses these methods in the design of new technological procedures in the design and construction of mining and underground works, as well as in the design of non-traditional technical solutions throughout the life of the mine. It independently solves the problems of the rationality and efficiency of mining, assesses the impact of deposit exploitation on the economic results of mining, but also on the production of products and on the business activity of a mining company in a competitive economic environment. It proposes measures to prevent the negative effects of mining on the environment and deals with the issue of impacts of mining and processing of raw materials on water, soil and air. Designs and projects reclamation methods and techniques on mined surface areas. He can alternatively solve technical problems related to the liquidation of mining and surface mining operations, and he knows how to design methods of liquidation of excavated underground spaces and underground security.
