Conditions of admission

Conditions for admission:

Framework conditions of the admission procedure are determined by the Study Regulations of the University of Presov, specific conditions require applicants to have in-depth knowledge of linguistics exceeding the level of the state examination at the master's level and the rigorous examination in a broader Slavic context, namely:

- comparative grammar of Slavic languages,

- the grammar of the contemporary Rusyn written language,

- the history and development of the Ruthenian language,

- the history of Ruthenian literature,

- the theory of the artistic text,

- in literary comparatistics.

Form of admission

The entrance examination is oral and includes a debate on a research issue related to the topic of the projected dissertation. Candidates will take the entrance examination in their chosen field of study and one foreign language.

The general prerequisite is knowledge of at least one foreign language verified by interview. Applicants must choose one foreign language from a choice of four world languages (English, German, Russian and French). If the applicant has successfully passed the state examination in the chosen foreign language as part of his/her university studies, he/she does not take the foreign language entrance examination.

Required Attachments to the Application for Doctoral Studies

In addition to other requirements defined by law, the applicant shall attach to the application:

a) curriculum vitae;

b) officially certified copies of the documents on education;

c) a list of his/her published articles or a list of the results of other professional or artistic activities, or testimonials on these works and activities;

d) a dissertation project with a summary in English, the recommended length of which is 9 000 characters including spaces (5 standard pages). The dissertation project shall also include a list of bibliographical references. Candidates are advised to contact the supervisor who writes the selected dissertation topic before selecting a dissertation topic.

High school graduates in the academic year 2023/2024 who will not have a diploma by the application deadline will bring it to the admission interview or attach to their application a certificate of passing the state examination and defending the diploma thesis issued by the study department of the relevant faculty. Applications received after the deadline or without the required elements will not be accepted.

General information on the admission exam

The basic condition for admission to the doctoral studies is the completion of the study programme second degree with a focus on Slavic languages and literatures. The applicant applies on the form Application for Doctoral StudiesŠEVT with the required attachments, which is sent to the Institute of Rusyn Language and Culture of the Centre for Languages and Cultures of National Minorities of the University of Presov in Presov, or uses the electronic application form with the required attachments. The statement of results of the master's studies is attached as an appendix to the diploma (in this case it is not necessary to fill in the table Statement of results of the master's studies on page 2 of the application form).
