Industrial engineering
Characteristics
A graduate of the industrial engineering study program in the2nd degree of university studies possesses knowledge and skills in key as well as specific areas of mechanical engineering and industrial engineering. The graduate can independently develop, develop, and practically use engineering approaches in solving technical problems of industrial practice. He can perform in-depth analyses of business processes and systems and, in this context, conceive evaluations, and proposals and maintain or innovate proposed and established solutions. The graduate possesses competencies in the field of designing production and non-production processes and systems with a connection to the use of information and communication technologies and software support focused on modelling, simulation, digitization, and virtualization. This allows him to produce variant solutions considering the specific requirements of industrial practice, test their validity and find optimal solutions. A graduate of the industrial engineering study program in the 2nd stage of university studies can apply the acquired knowledge, skills, and competencies at the middle and higher level of management within the organizational structure of industrial enterprises.
Aims of education
The industrial engineering study program in the 2nd degree of university studies is intended for future engineers who will be able to work independently in the field of conceptual design, efficiency improvement and optimization of business processes and systems, as well as in all areas of digitization of production and non-production processes. Graduates will acquire the competencies to actively solve tasks within the scope of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) with software support, which is used in industrial practice companies, thus being able to naturally implement them into the work process. During their studies, students have the opportunity to work with the latest software and technologies (Tecnomatix, Sewio, etc.) in the field of reverse engineering such as 3D scanning and 3D printing, in the area of virtual and mixed reality, and in the field of digital enterprise and digital twins. The solution of the semester and diploma theses are possible in specialized laboratories (the first Testbed 4.0 laboratory in the Slovak Republic) and in industrial practice enterprises with which the Department of Industrial and Digital Engineering cooperates. The study includes varied professional and social (cultural, sports) activities and participation in excursions to important companies operating in Slovakia and abroad, in domestic and foreign exhibitions, workshops and seminars focused on the field of industrial engineering. The application of a graduate of an engineering degree in the industrial engineering field of study is in the departments of design, logistics, and production, at the middle and top levels of management, where it is possible to use the potential of creativity and independence in solving the tasks of industrial practice. Currently, industrial engineers are in high demand mainly in the field of digitization of production processes, which is closely related to Industry 4.0.

- able to handle solutions to complex problems and formulate variant solutions for the following decision-making process
- able to arrive at an optimal solution by using methods, techniques and a systemic approach to solving problems
- have developed educational skills that determine their further professional growth in the 3rd degree of study, or self-study and in industrial practice
The main areas of profiling of a graduate of the 2nd degree of university studies in the industrial engineering study program are:
- conceptual design and modelling,
- digitization and virtual reality,
- simulations of production systems,
- logistics,
- industrial ergonomics.
