Philosophy

The fulfillment of the objectives and content units determines the profile of the graduate of the uni. PHILOSOPHY (2.st.):

The graduate will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the history and present of philosophical thought and at the same time a special (beyond standard) knowledge of a specific range of philosophical topics and problems. The scope and nature of his/her theoretical erudition allows him/her to continue his/her studies in the field of the 3rd degree (PhD.): Systematic Philosophy or History of Philosophy, or Logicand Methodology of Science, or work in the above-mentioned fields.

The student acquires habits for independent theoretical work. Graduates of the Philosophy programme are able to successfully carry out teaching practice in the subjects of philosophy, logic, ethics, or civics if they have endowed this orientation in elective teaching and have completed the prescribed additional pedagogical-psychological studies.

Coverage of knowledge of the graduate: he/she is a qualified specialist in the field of philosophical knowledge, having acquired the corresponding:

A. Theoretical knowledge - has mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of philosophy; has a detailed knowledge of the history of philosophy and is able to critically analyze developments in the field; has knowledge of the individual areas of philosophical thought and an overview of ways of solving philosophical-theoretical problems in these areas, including interdisciplinary ones; can work independently with sources and analyse philosophical texts in critical confrontation with his/her own knowledge; is prepared to work as a specialist in the field of philosophy; is able to identify and critically reflect on current trends and dynamics of social development in the broadest contexts;

B. practical abilities and skills - can register a problem situation and seek an optimal solution based on the acquired theory; critically analyse and evaluate scientific projects and initiatives in his/her field; has the ability to take an expert position on current social problems; is prepared to analyse, construct and assess projects also in the broader field of culture, politics and the social sphere in terms of his/her specialisation; is prepared for interdisciplinaryand interdisciplinary cooperation in solving professional-theoretical and socio-political problems.

The graduate is able to: work independently and effectively as an individual and as a member of a team; identify and seek opportunities for his/her professional development; assess the possible implications of proposed solutions to practical problems from a broader, primarily moral and humanistic perspective.

A graduate of the degree programme may, through compulsory electives and electives, expand his/her knowledge, skills and abilities to include information and communication technology, foreign languages and other disciplines as selected by the Institute or the Faculty.



Prospects of graduates

Graduates are eligible to seek employment in both the public and private sectors, or in the civil service. They can work in a wide range of social institutions and non-educational establishments - social science-oriented research organisations and institutions; educational institutions of the non-university type; educational institutions of the university type - university teacher (assistant, lecturer); governmental and non-governmental humanities institutions and organisations; organisations and institutions of the "third sector"; institutions engaged in empirical identification of the state of society (e.g., the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences, the social sciences). Conditions of admission

1)

The basic condition for admission to study according to master's study programmes (second degree of higher education within the meaning of Section 53 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education) is the completion of the first degree study programme.

2)

A candidate may be admitted to a master's study programme without an entrance examination if the master's study programme is a continuation of a bachelor's study programme in the given field of study and the candidate has passed the state examination in subjects equivalent to the subjects of the state examination of the corresponding bachelor's study programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov.



Additional information

a) A candidate may submit multiple applications for studies at the Faculty of Arts PU, indicating one study programme on one application form;

b) Applicants shall pay the fee by bank transfer or postal money order U, the proof of payment shall be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form;

c) Applications without proof of fee payment will not be accepted;

d) Basic data required to make a cross-border transfer from abroad via SWIFT network: swift address of the bank: SPSRSKBA, account number of the payee or account number of the SP client in the format SK87 8180 0000 0070 0007 8205; name of the bank: State Treasury, ul. Radlinského 32, 010 05 Bratislava 15; unabbreviated name and address of the payee, the client of the SP. 17. novembra 1, 080 78 Prešov, purpose of payment: fee VS 10100041;

e) Candidates studying at the Faculty of Arts PU or graduates of bachelor studies at the Faculty of Arts PU do not fill in the statement of results of bachelor studies in individual semesters and do not submit a confirmation of the correctness of the data. A structured curriculum vitae shall be attached to the application form;

f) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall fill in the first and second pages of the application form thoroughly;

g) Applicants who have not completed their bachelor's studies at the PU Faculty of Physical Education shall submit a structured curriculum vitae and certified photocopies of documents certifying completion of studies (university diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement) with their application form. Officially uncertified photocopies will not be accepted;

h) Applicants who are completing their bachelor studies at a faculty other than the PU Faculty of Arts in 2025 shall attach to the application form a statement of the results of bachelor studies in individual semesters issued by the study department of the university (stamp and signature of the study department of the school/faculty);

i) Applicants for studies with specific needs: 1. Before applying for studies, they shall contact the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator in order to be advised on the choice of the field of study and the scope of support services at PU; 2. provide the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator with sufficient information about their limitations and needs, 3. contact the faculty coordinator well in advance (usually 1 month before the entrance examination) to ensure adequate conditions for the entrance examination. j) Candidates shall submit a medical certificate of medical fitness as part of the application form, which is available on the faculty's website;

k) The application for studies may also be submitted by an applicant who has not yet passed the Bachelor's State Examination for the type of study and cannot provide relevant data on the passing of the examination in the application form. Such an applicant shall submit proof of having passed this examination subsequently, at the latest by the deadline set by the faculty. If the applicant fails to submit this document, he/she may not be admitted to the study;

l) In the event that fewer candidates apply for a study programme than the minimum number set for that study programme, the dean may decide not to open the programme for a given academic year. The dean shall notify the applicants of this fact and invite them to change their study programme. If the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will refund the full admission fee;

m) The Faculty of Arts follows the internal regulation Principles of the Admission Procedure of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov, which was issued by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov on 16 September 2009.
