Mass media studies
The student acquires knowledge from disciplines analyzing mass media communication (philosophy, psychology, sociology, linguistics, economics, etc.) as a prerequisite for a broader knowledge base of a critical and analytical view of the role of the media for the individual and society.
During the course of studies, the student acquires a broad knowledge of the theory and practice of mass and new media, marketing and marketing communication, i.e. of all areas of the media and marketing sphere in which there are specific forms of communication: creation, production, post-production, interpretation of media and marketing content, their dissemination and distribution, as well as research into their effects. He is able to work in media and marketing institutions and in other entities where the practices and processes in question are applied.
In addition to the knowledge base, the graduate possesses practical skills and abilities that enable him/her to actively and creatively perform in various mass media and marketing processes. He/she is able to work creatively, organisationally and administratively in all media and marketing organisations that require experts in different types and forms of communication.
The graduate of the study programme is proficient in the history and theory of journalism, film production, basics of marketing, professional ethics; theory and history of mass communication, acquires information on the current state of mass media and marketing communication at home and in the world, basics in the field of language culture, artistic culture, media and copyright law, psychology, sociology, economics, management and applies them to the field of media and marketing communication.
In addition to the standard topics defined by the field of study, the graduate's competences are rounded off by the specialisation chosen in the course of study, when the student has the option of preferring a theoretical or rather practical profiling; or a selected branch of media production (e.g. a focus on print or rather on electronic media). At the same time, the graduate possesses knowledge and skills expanded during the studies on the basis of his/her own choice in the areas that are the subject of long-term scientific and pedagogical specialization of the Institute of Slovak Studies and Media Studies of the Faculty of Arts PU in Prešov (especially the language of the media, especially the stylistics of media texts and the analysis of the sound level of language in the media, the analysis of pop culture, the application of semiotics and gender studies in the analysis of the media, etc.).

Combination of assessment of comprehensive secondary school learning outcomes with emphasis on relevant subjects and individual performance on entrance examinations. Assessment: 50 % performance in personal participation (talent test, interview, test) and 50 % comprehensive assessment of learning outcomes.
Additional information
a) at the Faculty of Arts PU in Prešov, an applicant may submit multiple applications indicating one study programme on each application form. The application may be submitted electronically or by filling in the print application form recommended by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic for the academic year 2025/2026. Each applicant must attach a matriculation certificate no later than the date of enrolment. Applicants matriculating before 2025 shall upload the matriculation certificate in PDF format together with the application form no later than the end of March 2025 or deliver it together with the print application form.
The matriculation certificate shall be uploaded by the end of March 2025.
b) Applicants shall pay the fee by bank transfer or postal money order U, proof of payment to be affixed to page 3 of the application form;
c) Applications without documented secondary school results and proof of payment of fee will not be accepted Each candidate must attach certificates or other relevant documents in PDF format in the e-application form and then submit to the Study Department along with the print application form. (d) Applicants who have passed the matriculation examination in the previous period shall submit certified copies of their secondary school leaving certificates for the last four years of study, a certified copy of their matriculation examination certificate and a curriculum vitae together with their application form;
e) an applicant who will take the matriculation examination in 2025 shall submit with the application for studies the school-certified results of the end-of-year report cards for the previous years of studies and the mid-term evaluation for the last year of studies and a curriculum vitae. A certified copy of the school-leaving certificate shall be handed in at the time of enrolment. The school will confirm the applicant's half-yearly mark for the final year of study, together with the previous years of study, on the application form or by certifying it on the report form;

f) Unauthenticated copies of school leaving certificates and unattested school leaving certificates from foreign secondary schools will not be accepted;
g) applicants with specific needs:
1. prior to submitting an application for study, contact the faculty (or university coordinator in the case of university departments) coordinator for advice on the choice of field of study and the range of support services at PU,
2. provide the faculty (or, in the case of university departments, the university) coordinator with sufficient information about his/her limitations and needs,
3. contact the faculty coordinator well in advance (usually 1 month before the entrance examination) to ensure that reasonable arrangements are made for the entrance examination. Conditions for international students
Conditions of admission for foreign applicants for studies in Slovak language in case they have not completed their previous education in the Slovak Republic or the Czech Republic):
The condition of admission to the study is the submission of a document of recognition of the equivalence of educational documents (nostrification).
An applicant for a bachelor's degree is considered to be a foreign applicant who has completed secondary school studies outside the territory of the Slovak Republic.
The following conditions apply to foreign applicants for bachelor studies in the Slovak language:
The basic condition for admission to the first cycle of studies at the Faculty of Arts is a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education completed by the matriculation examination. Another condition for admission of applicants to the first cycle of studies in the Slovak language of study is the demonstration of linguistic competence to study in this language.
The method of conducting the admission procedure for bachelor's studies is the same for all applicants for bachelor's studies. Accordingly, the specific conditions for the admission of foreign applicants to the bachelor's programme are as follows:
1. The application form must be submitted fully completed including attachments by the specified deadline on the prescribed form and must be signed by the applicant.

- officially translated and certified secondary school certificates. For the last year of secondary education, officially translated and certified secondary school certificates for the first semester of studies must be provided,
- statement on equivalence of secondary school studies issued by the Ministry of Education, Science Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic - i.e. transfer of the matriculation examination marks to the Slovak evaluation system (Ukrainian applicants do not document equivalence),

- proof of payment of the fee for material support for the admission procedure.
Study applicants who have studied at a foreign secondary school shall deliver the Decision on recognition of the equivalence of the document of education, or the Certificate on the equivalence of the document of education issued by the foreign school, the so-called nostrification of the matriculation certificate, no later than on the day of enrolment.
The condition for the admission of foreigners to study is the demonstration of the necessary competence in the same way as in the case of applicants - citizens of the Slovak Republic.
