Metallurgy
The subject of study in the field is knowledge of metallurgical process theory, material sciences, thermal engineering, management theory and process control systems.
The graduate has an in-depth technical knowledge of metal production, metal casting, foundry, production and application of non-metallic materials, chemistry, high-temperature processes, thermal engineering and metallurgical power engineering; he/she knows the methods and means of organizing, controlling and simulating processes; he/she knows the stationary and dynamic analyses of the studied processes, the assessment of thermal stress, flow, dynamics of hydro-mechanical and thermodynamic systems, transfer of heat and mass as well as the interaction of transfer phenomena with chemical reactions. The student masters the mathematical apparatus and principles necessary for the design and execution of numerical and physical simulations of metallurgical processes. The student is proficient in fuel combustion and energy conversion technologies. The student is proficient in heat treatment technologies for materials. Proficient in mathematical solution procedures.
Prospects of graduates
The graduate is able to design, solve, implement and evaluate research and development projects at the national and international level, build contacts with domestic and foreign partners in the field of industry and scientific research cooperation, is able to independently solve demanding professional tasks aimed at the effective use, development and innovation of technological processes in metallurgy and related industries, as well as or lead a team that solves such tasks. He/she is able to organise, control and simulate technological processes and develop new technological procedures; in specific applications, he/she is able to use and further develop computer support in design, project and scientific research activities. Applies knowledge in the field of heat exchange in technological processes. Analyses thermo-technical problems. Applies knowledge of mathematical modelling in process optimisation. The graduate is able to plan, organize and manage the operation of individual plants and technological units, including environmental ones; is able to create instructions, implementation projects and evaluation procedures for the activities of the department; is prepared to hold senior management positions, technologist, production manager; lead large projects, work in the field of research, development and technology transfer, in the field of management and quality control, as well as in the business sphere and the state sector. Achieves a high level of understanding of the problems to be solved in the field of combustion, energy sources and conversion, heat exchange, which can be logically evaluated and solutions proposed. Communicates at a high technical level. Able to coordinate a team to ensure successful problem solving.

The basic condition for admission to study is the submission of an application form in which the applicant indicates the study programme and the form of study (full-time/external). It is also recommended to indicate an alternative study programme.

An international student applicant is admitted on the basis of cultural agreements or as a self-paying student.

A graduate of engineering studies may continue his/her studies at the 3rd level of higher education.

The basic condition for admission to study is the submission of an application form in which the applicant indicates the study programme and the form of study (full-time/external). Foreign applicants are admitted on the basis of cultural agreements or as self-payers. They can study in Slovak, Czech and English.

Engineering applicant:in(k) application form
- submits a state examination certificate, a bachelor's diploma and a transcript of the results of previous university studies, or a supplement to the diploma (certified copies), which may be submitted additionally after the state examination, before the admission deadline.
- states the study programme, it is recommended to indicate an alternative study programme
- short curriculum vitae and proof of payment of the admission fee. The fee should be paid to the account of the Technical University of Košice, Faculty of Metallurgy, Letná 9, 042 00 Košice, Bank. 7000151476/8180. The stub of the U-type postal order should be glued on the 3rd page of the application form.
- The applicant is notified of the result of the admission procedure by registered letter within 30 days at the latest.
- Accepted applicant has the possibility to apply for accommodation in the TU Student House at Jedlíkova 5 in Košice (accommodation is allocated on the basis of criteria set by the Technical University in 2 to 3 bed rooms with sanitary facilities).
