To develop the skills and habits leading to a reasoned and critical knowledge of the past and to master the competence to interpret the content of knowledge in a professional manner.

Acquire a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural history of human society and master the theoretical and methodological foundations of historical scholarship.

Identify, locate and evaluate sources of information. Critically access primary and secondary literature. Adequately evaluate historical argumentation and historical narrative.

Create more complex historical explanations, analyze and interpret historical evidence, and apply relevant methods and theories of historical research. To ask critical questions about the past and to comment independently and creatively on historical events and processes.

Prospects of graduates
Graduate Profile
The graduate of the Master's degree programme in history (single-discipline) will obtain a full university education in the field of studyhistorical sciences.The graduate of the second degree of the university study in the field of single-discipline history will be able to independently orient themselves in individual historical periods and in selected problems of history. He/she can independently search, collect and sort sources and literature, in which he/she is well oriented. Can take oral and written positions which can be argued at a scientific level. Can work independently or as part of a team on assignments and projects in which he/she is able to use the results of research in other related fields. In addition to an interdisciplinary approach, he/she can use new approaches to problem solving based on a comprehensive knowledge of history.

JOURNALISM
- obtaining a university degree of the first (bachelor's) degree or the second (master's/engineering/doctoral) degree;
- commitment to respect the Catholic spirit of the university and the faculty;- in the case of teaching degree programs, proof of a university degree of at least a first (bachelor's) degree in "Teaching and Educational Sciences" or proof of passing the state examination in education;
- in the case of teacher study programmes in which one teaching subject is provided by the KU Faculty of Education, fulfil the admission procedure conditions required for this subject (the conditions are published on pf.ku.sk).
The final ranking of applicants will be based on the result of the state examination.

Health disadvantaged applicants may request that the form and method of the entrance examination be determined taking into account their disadvantage (a written request is sent together with the application form).

Attention! If the applicant submits the application via portalvs.sk, the application must also be sent in paper form to the address of the faculty. In this case, the fee for the material support of the admission procedure is 35 €.
The application form must be accompanied by:
a) confirmation of payment of the fee;
b) in the case of applicants for the study programme TEACHER OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE in combination with a second teaching subject, who have obtained secondary education outside the Slovak Republic and have not at the same time completed university studies of at least the first (bachelor's) degree in the study programme Teacher of Slovak Language and Literature, also a certificate proving the level of proficiency in the Slovak language at the level of at least B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and Literature.
The following documents should be delivered to the study department (preferably at the time of application if possible):
a) certified copies of the documents of graduation (Bachelor's/Master's/Engineering/Doctoral diploma, supplement to the diploma and certificate of state examination), while applicants who have been issued the documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (previous studies were completed at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;
b)in the case of applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad, also a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education for the purpose of studying in the Slovak Republic.
Information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or paper mail.
Deadline for verification of fulfilment of the admission requirements: by 15 June 2025
Written decision on the result of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of the fulfilment of the conditions of admission to the study. The written decision shall be delivered to the applicants in their own hands.
