Learning Objectives of the Study Programme (AnAm)

1. To acquire language skills (receptive, productive, interactive) and communicative language competences (grammatical, pragmatic and socio-linguistic) in English at B2 - C1 level according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

1. To acquire theoretical knowledge and practicalskills in the basic disciplines of English linguistics (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicology) as a basis for further linguistic education at Master's level.

1. In the study of the history and literature of Anglophone countries, acquire knowledge of their cultural and social life in the past and present. To acquire the basic terminology of literary studies and the skills needed in the analysis and interpretation of literary texts. To be familiar with the literary works of authors writing in English, to be able to evaluate and interpret them in a broader socio-historical context.

1. Gain knowledge of the basic concepts, movements, genres, authors, and mediation processes within critical and cultural studies and how cultural, political, social, technological, and economic changes are reflected in converging forms of cultural production and critical thought.

1. Know how to critically evaluate information, analyze and evaluate primary and secondary text. When working with scholarly texts, acquire the experience and skills to generate scholarly texts based on scholarly research, in accordance with the procedural, structural and ethical rules of academic writing.

Graduate profile 

The graduate of the bachelor's study programme in English and American Studies- Philosophywill obtain a complete first level university degree in thestudyfields of Philologyand Philosophy. S/he speaks English at the levelC1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. S/he has knowledge of the English language and its laws, thewayand conditions of its functioning at all language levels. The graduateis able tospecify and draw on knowledge from the theory of literature and from the history of literature and from the interpretation of literary texts. The graduate is acquainted with the most important cultural and social realities and history of English-speaking countries. S/he knows the basic procedures, analyses and interpretations of prose, dramatic and poetic texts. S/he can be characterized by creative and flexible thinking and is able to engage in work in the arts and creative industries. S/he can present his / her own opinions in English. The graduate of the study programmeis able tomaintaincontact with the current development of the English language and English-speaking countries and effectively continue her/his own professional development.The graduate also has general theoretical knowledge in the basic areas of philosophy,s/hecan explain its basic conceptual,categoricaland methodological apparatus. S/he can analyse the starting points and conclusions of philosophical problems. S/he knows the basics of argumentation and communication techniques and can categorize the main currents of thought of the Westernintellectualtradition. The graduate is intellectually skilled in the field of analytical,criticaland conceptual thinking and proposes solutions to professionalproblems in a broader context. S/he can analyse and interpretscholarlytext, effectively use the argumentation strategies of individualthinkersand critically evaluate their arguments. The graduate is independent in solving philosophical problems in a broader context. S/he can present his/heropinion, take attitudes toproblemsand make decisions knowing from several value perspectives in an argumentatively efficient and linguistically cultivated way. The graduate studied philosophy in the context of the pursuit of dialogue between reason and faith in the spirit of the Catholic intellectual tradition. Thegraduate of the study program English and American Studies - Philosophy can work, for example, as a cultural agent, culturalofficer, public administration specialist in the field of international relations, public administration specialist in the field of culture or as a textproofreader.
