The graduate of Biology can creatively and independently solve problems of biological research and practical tasks of applied biology, has knowledge and skills in methods of research of living systems at different levels of their organization (molecule, cell, organism, population, ecosystem)...
Graduates have knowledge of the basic biological sciences (genetics, molecular biology, plant and animal physiology, cytology, immunology,microbiology, ethology, botany, zoology, human biology, ecology, and others), have knowledge of several chemical disciplines and frontier science disciplines (biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics), and have a deep theoretical knowledge in a broad spectrum of physiological sciences and zoological disciplines. They will also acquire methodological readiness and practical skills for scientific work in their chosen field, which can be applied in practice or in continuing studies at the 3rd level of higher education. Graduates are able to participate in the teaching of biological subjects at universities with a biological focus Graduates of the study programme have excellent prerequisites to apply in research and operational laboratories in the health sector, in sanitary service facilities, at the workplaces of the Academy of Sciences and universities with a related focus, as well as in museums, in the field of nature and landscape conservation authorities, as well as in the private sector, e.g. in our and foreign pharmaceutical companies.
The graduates of the study programme are able to work in the field of biology in the field of biology.

a.) Master's degree programme applicants are admitted to study either on the basis of the results of the entrance examination or without an entrance examination, based on an assessment of the weighted study average (WSA), the suitability or relatedness of the applicant's completed bachelor's degree and the applicant's occupational activities (OA).
b.) The admission method is decided by the admission committee, which has at least three members and usually consists of the director and guarantors of study programmes implemented at the institute of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Applied Sciences, which is the main provider of the given study programme.

c.) The Admissions Committee shall assess the compatibility of the applicant's completed Bachelor's degree programme and the degree programme to which the applicant is applying, the results of previous Bachelor's degree studies, the number of applicants and the capacity of the degree programme. For a given programme of study, the committee shall recommend admission to the Dean of the Faculty either on the basis of the results of the entrance examination or on the basis of an assessment of the results of the previous bachelor's studies.
Additional information
An applicant may apply for two study programmes, specifying their order in the application form. The programme that is listed first in order is considered his/her first (preferred) choice. If the applicant is not admitted to the preferred programme, he/she may be admitted to the second ranked programme if he/she meets the admission requirements for that programme. If the applicant is admitted to the preferred programme, the second programme of study shall be deemed to be of no relevance. The fee for securing admission shall not be increased by listing a second programme of study.
Conditions for international students
Foreign students who will study in the Slovak language are admitted under the same conditions as Slovak applicants. In the case of studying in English, they are admitted and study on the basis of a study contract, which is concluded with each applicant individually.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
a.) Admission without an entrance examination is possible if the applicant has completed a bachelor's study compatible with the bachelor's study carried out at the UPJŠ Faculty of Arts, which is followed by the master's study to which he/she is applying. The compatibility of study programmes is assessed on the basis of the completion of studies in the profiling subjects and areas listed in Annex 1. Only those applicants whose weighted grade point average (GPA) during their undergraduate studies is not worse than 2.5 may be admitted without an entrance examination.
b.) For admission without an entrance examination, the admissions committee shall consider:
- the weighted grade point average (GPA) and the results of studies in the profiling subjects according to the chosen programme of study listed in Annex 1.
- the applicant's professional activities (OA).
Profiling subjects for individual study programmes are listed in Annex 1.
c.) In admitting applicants under b.), the Admissions Committee shall rank the applicants on the waiting list in ascending order according to the value of the coefficient , where:
OA=1, if the applicant has proven evidence of professional activities carried out during the previous Bachelor's degree at the faculty level (e.g. placing in one of the first three places at the faculty round of the SSC, work for the benefit of the institute/department, help in organizing competitions with regional scope...),
OA=1.5 if the applicant has proven evidence of professional activities carried out during the previous bachelor's studies at the national level (e.g. successful representation at the national round of the SSC, help in organising competitions with a national scope, co-authorship of professional publications published in Slovakia...),
OA=2, if the applicant has proven evidence of professional activities carried out during the previous bachelor's degree at international level (e.g. successful representation at an international SSC round, co-authorship of professional publications published abroad...).
If the applicant has not documented professional activities carried out during the previous bachelor studies, OA = 0.

The Faculty reserves the right to decide not to open a study programme in the event of an insufficient number of applicants meeting the admission requirements. In this case, the decision will be communicated to the applicants and they will be invited to change their study programme. If the applicant does not accept the offer, the faculty will refund the full admissions fee.
