Horticulture

A graduate of the Bachelor's degree in Horticulture presents a university-educated professional. He/she is able to use regulatory cultivation technologies, including the application of mineral nutrients and protective agents. He/she is qualified to manage the operation, maintenance and management of indoor production.



Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the Bachelor's study programme Horticulture are applied as specialists in all forms of horticultural production and downstream processing units, in marketing, in trade, in research, in education, in state administration, in state veterinary and food administration. Graduates are also applied as technical workers in horticultural operations, in small and medium-sized horticulture as consultants for the application of propagation technologies, plant protection, treatment of fruit and ornamental trees and vines, as heads of laboratories for plant micropropagation, in diagnostic centres for the quality of plants and their products.

Conditions of admission

BASIC CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY

The basic condition for admission to the study according to §56 (1) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended, is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education. Secondary schools with the greatest prerequisite for related studies at FZKI SPU in Nitra are: e.g. grammar schools of all types, secondary vocational schools of horticultural, agrotechnical, agricultural, forestry, woodworking, artistic, construction and technical orientation, as well as secondary schools focused on surveying, environment, tourism and rural development.

FURTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The selection of candidates for the study programmes Landscape Engineering and Horticulture will be by admission interview (the candidate will attend the interview in person on a specified date) and by ranking the candidates according to the results of their studies from secondary school, where the qualitative indicator will be the study average of the grades obtained in the first three years and the results of the admission interview. This admission principle applies to applicants who are applying to study at the Faculty of Physical Education and Culture for the first time. The interview will not be a knowledge-based interview, it is intended to demonstrate the applicant's aptitude to study the chosen study programme.



Additional information

In the case of applicants who will not be admitted to the priority study programme (in the case of exceeding the planned number of admissions or in the case of failure to meet the admission requirements), the Dean of the Faculty reserves the right to admit the applicant to another, related study programme.

GENERAL DETAILS ABOUT THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  • A candidate may apply on one application form (electronically) for more than one degree programme implemented in the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering (within one admission fee),
  • Applicants who graduated earlier than 2024 will send photocopies of their high school diplomas for years 1, 2 and 3 - they do not need to be verified,
  • invitation to the entrance talent test and admission interview or admission decision will only be sent to applicants who include proof of payment of the admission fee with their application form,

and the admission fee will be sent to applicants who have not paid the admission fee, and the admission fee will not be sent to applicants who have not paid the admission fee.

  • incomplete applications (e.g. without proof of payment of the fee) will not be accepted,
  • Applicants will upload electronically via the University Information System (UIS) a scan of their matriculation certificate.
  • Certified copy of the matriculation certificate (notary, registrar's office)

will be brought by the applicants to the enrolment, otherwise they will not be enrolled in the studies.

  • faculty will send to applicants information on the method of conducting the talent entrance exam and conducting interview, if necessary, other information about the admission procedure after the registration of the complete application for studies

INFORMATION FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS, RESP. FOR Candidates who have graduated abroad

In addition to the required attachments, foreign applicants or applicants who have graduated abroad are required to attach a Decision on Recognition of Education Document to the Application Form (http://www.uniag.sk/en/admission-requirements/). Decision on the recognition of a diploma is issued by the competent Regional Office of School Administration according to the place of residence of the applicant. The procedure for the processing of the above-mentioned documents is set out on the website of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic

In the case of a foreign applicant without a residence permit in the Slovak Republic, the decision is issued by the Regional Office of School Administration in Nitra, J. Vuruma 1, 949 01 Nitra application for recognition of an educational document.

The basic condition for admission to studies according to §56 (1) of Act No 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended, is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education. In the case of persons who have been granted asylum, subsidiary protection or temporary refuge, this requirement may be demonstrated by an affidavit and a general aptitude test. Details will be determined by the faculties in the admission requirements.

Foreign applicants (the exceptions are applicants from the Czech Republic and applicants who have graduated from the Slovak language) who apply to study a study programme offered at the SPU in Nitra in the Slovak language and in a combination of Slovak and English must compulsorily pass an online test and an online oral interview aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Nitra Language Centre (https://cj.uniag.sk/sk/domov/) on two dates, which applicants will be informed about in advance.

After passing the language test, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of the summary result of the online test and the online interview, which will correspond to the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The test and the certificate are subject to a fee of € 30,-.

If the applicant's level of language proficiency is below A1, the applicant will not

admitted to the study.

If the applicant's language proficiency level is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the study, but will be required to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organized by the Centre of Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: 120,- €). The course will run from 25 August 2025 to 5 September 2025. Upon completion of the course, a certificate of completion will be issued to the applicant.

If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the admission requirements.
