General Veterinary Medicine
The curriculum of the General Veterinary Medicine programme is mainly focused on the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diseases in companion and farm animals. The curriculum includes teaching ecology and environmental protection. This curriculum was evaluated by a European Community expert committee in 1997 and re-evaluated in 2005 and fully complies with EU standards.
The current status of the university, based on the decision of the European Committee of Veterinary Education (ECOVE), is "evaluated" and "accredited".
Prospects of graduates
In the study programme of general veterinary medicine, the curriculum is mainly focused on the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diseases in companion and farm animals. The curricula include teaching of ecology and environmental protection. Priority is given to theoretical and practical training in specialised clinical subjects according to animal species in the aspects of internal, infectious, invasive and toxic diseases, metabolic disorders and damage to the body by radiation and other adverse environmental influences. In the course of his/her studies, he/she acquires knowledge and understanding of diseases common to humans and animals, thereby contributing to the protection of human health and the reduced incidence of zoonoses in the human population. This study programme was evaluated by a European Community expert committee in 1996 and re-evaluated in 2005 and 2016, fully complying with EU standards. The diploma obtained at UVLF in Košice is valid in EU countries.

Admission to study at UVLF in Košice is conditional on obtaining full secondary education or full secondary vocational education and successfully passing the entrance examinations. The order of applicants will be determined on the basis of the number of points achieved in written tests in biology and chemistry and the evaluation of active participation in secondary school Olympiads and SOČ in profile subjects (biology, chemistry) and for other activities, which the student must provide written documentation for the application form.

a)Evaluation of the result of Olympiads and SOPs from profile subjects (biology, chemistry):
A copy of the diploma must be sent with the application form; when participating in more than one round, the document from the highest round is accepted:
National rounds (district, regional, national) with 1st to 3rd place 5 points
International round 10 points
The maximum number of points that a candidate can receive for participation and/or placement in all subject Olympiads and/or SOTC is 20.
b)Other activities:
A copy of the diploma must be sent with the application form; only one diploma will be accepted:
Olympiads and competitions in subjects other than profile subjects with the following placements:1st to 3rd place 3 points
The maximum number of points that a candidate can receive for other activities is 3.
