Veterinárna sestra
The study programme in veterinary nursing is aimed at acquiring knowledge in the field of intensive care of pets. The student acquires basic knowledge in the field of pathological changes in dead animals, learns about necrobiotic processes occurring in the body, recognizes acute and chronic inflammation and the possibilities of their healing by regeneration and reparation, has knowledge about the characteristics of tumors, developmental anomalies and immune disorders, is able to interpret pathogenetic mechanisms in the context of disease processes, has knowledge of investigative diagnostic methods, has basic knowledge of parasitic and infectious diseases of companion animals, is proficient in the management of veterinary reception and first contact with patients and clients. The student will master outpatient laboratory techniques, record keeping and management of therapy administration for individual diseases, preventive veterinary health programs for puppies, adult and aging patients, and special needs patients, gain knowledge of the management of care for handicapped, abandoned, and zoo animals, and have a basic understanding of the management of care for the hospitalized patient.

Prospects of graduates
- The graduate of the study programme veterinary nurse can apply as an assistant in veterinary practice, in the teaching process, in animal protection organizations, as a worker for animal charity (shelters and quarantine stations), for the pharmaceutical industry, for veterinary publishing, as an expert in animal nutrition, in the field of animal physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as an animal care inspector, as a researcher, as a pet trainer, as a sales representative for pet diets, as a laboratory technician for animals, as a rescuer, as a consultant in animal husbandry and in zoos, etc.

Admission to study at UVLF in Košice is conditional on obtaining full secondary education or full secondary vocational education and successfully passing the entrance examination. The order of applicants will be determined on the basis of the number of points achieved in the written test in biology and the evaluation of active participation in high school Olympiads and SOTS in profile subjects (biology and chemistry) and for other activities, which the student must document in writing to the application form.

A copy of the diploma must be sent with the application form; when participating in more than one round, the document from the highest round is accepted:
National rounds (district, regional, national) with 1st to 3rd place 5 points
International round 10 points
The maximum number of points that a candidate can receive for participation and/or placement in all subject Olympiads and/or SOTC is 20.

A copy of the diploma must be sent with the application form; only one diploma will be accepted:
Olympiads and competitions in subjects other than profile subjects with placement:1st to 3rd place 3 points
The maximum number of points that a candidate can receive for other activities is 3.
