Emergency Medical Care
Characteristics of the study programme
A graduate of the Emergency Health Care program is able to provide pre-hospital care to a person in health and life threatening situations, provide nursing care to a patient in secondary transports, and provide critical care to a critical patient in a mobile intensive care unit crew. He/she is able to keep abreast of new developments in the rapidly evolving disciplines of emergency medicine, critical care, intensive care medicine, and disaster medicine. He has good practical experience in field and laboratory exercises which he can use appropriately in practice. Professional training is based on the results of science and research. The content of the educational process is the knowledge acquired in the theoretical subjects: humanities, medicine and specific subjects of emergency health care. Practical skills are acquired during laboratory exercises in professional classrooms, where the student learns basic procedures and techniques in patient care. The acquired habits are consolidated during supervised practical training in a medical facility, in an emergency medical service and in an operating centre of an emergency medical service. He acquires specific knowledge and skills from the activities of other components of the integrated system during training courses focused on the issues of water rescue service, mountain rescue service in winter and summer terrain. The student gets acquainted with the issues of helicopter rescue medical service and fire and rescue brigade, control chemical laboratory during the excursion.

- Paramedic rescuer in the ambulance of the Mountain Rescue Corps Medical rescuer in the emergency department or in the reception ambulance of a health care facility
- Operator of the operation centre of the Slovak Air Ambulance Service
- Medical rescuer in the military health care

BASIC CONDITION FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY (according to Section 56 (1) of Act No. 131/2002 on Higher Education)
- the study programme may be chosen by graduates of secondary schools from the Slovak Republic and from abroad who have completed their secondary school studies with a matriculation examination (or equivalent examination) and submit a valid document to that effect by the deadline set by the FSVaZ;
- applicants who do not fulfil the basic condition for admission by the set deadline, but fulfil the other basic conditions for admission set by FSVaZ and at the same time obtain the necessary number of points for admission according to the set criteria, may be admitted to the study with the proviso that they are obliged to prove fulfilment of the basic condition no later than on the date set for enrolment in the study (according to Section 58(1) of Act No 131/2002 on Higher Education Institutions of Higher Education).
FURTHER BASIC CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO STUDIES established by FSVaZ
- obtaining a minimum of 15 points in the talent test for applicants to the Urgent Health Care study programme;
- for applicants who have not passed the matriculation examination in Slovak or Czech language, successful completion of the entrance examination in Slovak language is a compulsory part of the admission procedure
- Applicants for study in the study programme Urgent Health Care are also obliged to provide a medical opinion on their medical fitness to study the health profession no later than on the day designated for enrolment in the study programme.
- FSVaZ requires the applicant to be 18 years of age by 31.12.2023 due to the implementation of medical practice.
After the assessment of fulfillment of the basic conditions for admission to the study, the applicants with the highest number of points achieved according to the criteria for the selection of applicants established by the FSVaZ will be admitted.
In the study programme Urgent Health Care (full-time form), the admission procedure includes a talent test. The language and talent tests will be conducted on the same date.
A candidate may obtain a maximum of 100 points in the admission procedure. On the basis of the points obtained, the Admissions Committee will rank the candidates. The candidates with the highest number of points will be admitted.
