Creation and Construction of Furniture
Graduate Profile
The graduate of the study programme "Creation and Construction of Furniture" in the field of Woodworking has knowledge of the structure and properties of wood, its modification and interactions with other substances and various forms of energy, the technologies of processing and transformation of wood into wood products and the laws of these processes. The graduate has the ability to model, develop, manage and control complex technological processes of wood processing and furniture production, creatively develop them with regard to the efficient use and recovery of wood raw material. He/she is able to apply knowledge of material properties and furniture construction, on the basis of which he/she is able to solve the problems of the innovation process of creating new functional and safe products with a focus on interior elements and furniture.
After completing the engineering studies, the graduate is ready to continue in the third level of studies or to apply his/her knowledge and skills in the production sphere.
The graduate of the second degree has theoretical knowledge of:
- natural science disciplines; applied mathematics and statistics, applied physics and mechanics,
- technological processes of wood materials production, processing, drying and modification of wood,
- technological processes of furniture production and their innovation, design and construction of wood products,
- management of timber enterprises, corporate financing and investment,
- the field of modern laboratory methods for testing standard and non-standard properties of wood, furniture and other wood products.
Acquire and be able to apply practical skills and abilities:
- specify, analyse, design, professionally and organisationally manage furniture manufacturing processes from the perspective of development and application of the latest knowledge,
- develop, design, construct furniture and other wood-based products with a focus on their functionality, safety and utility and evaluate them in terms of quality and economic efficiency.
Be able tocomplementary knowledge, skills and abilities:
- keep in touch with the latest world knowledge and developments in wood processing and wood products,
- work effectively as an individual, member or team leader,
- to be guided by professional, legal and ethical principles.
Prospects of graduates
Graduate placement
The graduate of the study programme "Creation and Construction of Furniture" will be employed in design teams with the use of knowledge for innovation and development of new products and technical equipment related to furniture construction. It has the prerequisites to occupy senior technical or managerial positions, in project management, in improving the quality of production and products by introducing quality systems in wood and wood materials processing plants. He can find employment in testing or research and development institutes, in Slovakia and abroad. He is competent to set up his own furniture and wood products manufacturing plants and design offices with a focus on furniture creation. They can provide professional services related to technologies and products necessary for furniture production.
After completing additional pedagogical studies, the graduate may work as a teacher of vocational subjects at secondary school and as a staff member at university.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
Admission of applicants to all engineering study programmes of the Forestry department will take place in the form of a selective admission procedure without the participation of applicants. The level and nature of the bachelor's studies completed will be assessed on the basis of an evaluation of the weighted average of the entire bachelor's studies and the overall result of the state examination. Graduates of a study programme in a related field will be required to take selected courses from the core of the first degree in Wood Science without credit.
The admission selection procedure without the participation of applicants will take place on 20.7.2022.
