Inorganic Technology and Materials

The Ph.D. graduate is able to plan the research work and make individually decision on solving complex technological problems in the field of inorganic technology including waste management. They are highly educated in laboratory techniques of inorganic material synthesis and characterization especially in the field of glass chemistry, inorganic binders, ceramic and heat resistant materials, nanomaterials, and technical electrochemistry. The Ph.D. graduate is a highly qualified specialist with deep theoretical background in thermodynamics and kinetics, including kinetics of electrochemical reactions, and is able to individually solve demanding practical engineering problems. The PhD graduate manages both theoretical and practical aspects of materials research with the application of advanced experimental characterization methods and modern technologies. Graduate is fluent in foreign language and highly competent to work with computers, software, and the other equipment required doing her/his job. Ph.D. graduate is able to work with other people to achieve a common goal, make prediction

The objective of the programme is to educate highly qualified graduates with extensive knowledge in applied material thermodynamics, kinetics of chemical processes including both electrochemical and high‑temperature processes. He has a strong theoretical background in inorganic technologies, applied thermodynamics and kinetics, including kinetics of electrochemical and high‑temperature reactions, and both development and preparation novel materials, development of new processing technologies or innovation of traditional materials. The graduates understand the principles of scientific management and they have a deep mathematical background in statistical data processing in area of interest and manage both research and technological projects.

Prospects of graduates

The aim of the programme is to educate graduates to be able to individually work and/or solve the scientific and research problems. It is focused on the novel materials and low‑waste technologies. The main parts of this project are electrochemical technologies and industrial technology of ceramics (heat‑protecting, technical, and special), construction and building materials for civil engineering, metallurgy, and mechanical engineering (heat‑protecting, technical, and special ceramics, corrosion, and functional gradient materials and layers on various surfaces) and nanomaterials. Ph.D. graduate can find a job in research and development laboratories, in the various branches of industry, where inorganic materials are used such as electronics, computers, telecommunications, machinery, aerospace industry, nuclear technology, in the field of environmental protection, and as technological (material) laboratory QA/QC managers/supervisors.
