Food and Technologies in Gastronomy
Graduates of the professional study programme Food and Technology in Gastronomy know the principles of good manufacturing practice and good hygiene practice at all stages of production, catering and sale of food and beverages, including hot and cold dishes, ready meals, thermo-sterilised semi-finished products and meals, shock-chilled and frozen meals, delicatessen and confectionery products, ice-cream, drinks, fast food and traditional meals and dishes, respecting the latest trends. Can apply new technologies and environmentally friendly food preparation techniques to food, meals and ready meals. Develops criteria and procedures for input, intermediate and output control of food, meals and ready meals, is responsible for quality control of input raw materials, ready meals, semi-finished products and dishes. He/she is independent in management, decision making and control processes, prepares costing of products and services, contracts for the supply of domestic raw materials, products and goods with guarantee of quality, freshness and safety.
Prospects of graduates
Graduates of the professional study programme Food and Technology in Gastronomy will gain knowledge of new technologies enabling the preservation of the nutritional value of food, acquire information on hygienic principles in the production and transport of food, and acquire the basics of economic and entrepreneurial thinking. The graduate will be able to carry out highly professional activities for catering services: nutritional-technological, hygienic, operational (marketing, commercial, business, entrepreneurial, managerial) and control activities in different working positions and legal organizational forms as an employee, employer or entrepreneur. As a result of the study the qualification of Specialist - manager of a catering company, manager of a catering establishment, manager of production and sale of delicatessen and confectionery products including ice cream, food and beverage production technologist will be acquired.

Basic conditions of admission to the 1st degree of university studies at the FBP SPU in Nitra
1. The admission procedure for the first degree of university studies at the FBP SPU in Nitra is carried out in accordance with §55, §56, §57 and §58 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education, in accordance with the Study Regulations of the SPU in Nitra and the Statute of the FBP SPU in Nitra.
2. The basic condition for admission to the first level of university studies is the acquisition of complete secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.
3. Knowledge of the Slovak language is a prerequisite for admission.
4. The admission procedure to the 1st degree of university studies at the FBP SPU in Nitra will be carried out without entrance examinations.
5. Those interested in studying shall apply by means of e-application or paper application.
6. Once the e-application has been registered, a decision on conditional admission will be sent electronically to the applicant's email address.
7. A certified copy of the matriculation certificate shall be delivered to the address of the Department for Studies and Education of the FBP SPU in Nitra by 31 May 2024 (1st round of the admission procedure) or by 26 July 2024 (2nd round of the admission procedure), or, for justified reasons, on the date set for the enrolment.
8. The application fee is non-refundable.
Other conditions of admission to the Bachelor's degree in case of exceeding the planned number of applicants
- Conditions for admission to a particular SP will be determined by the Admissions Committee based on the current number of students admitted.
- If a greater number of applicants meet the admission requirements for a SP, those applicants who demonstrate the highest level of aptitude for study according to the conditions set by the faculty will be admitted, with preference given to students who have taken chemistry and biology courses during their secondary school studies. The point limit for admission will be determined by the Admissions Committee on the basis of the admission criteria (https://fbp.uniag.sk/sk/bc-stupen/) based on the number of students admitted to each study programme and the current scores of the applicants for the study. Applicants will be ranked according to the scores obtained on the basis of the results of their studies at secondary school and the results obtained in the matriculation examination.
- Foreign applicants from Member States of the European Union or States that are parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or citizens with permanent residence in a Member State will be admitted under the same conditions as citizens of the Slovak Republic. Foreign applicants from other countries may apply to study at the FBP SPU in Nitra after successful completion of the Slovak language studies and documentation of a certificate of successful completion (for self-payers + concluded contract).
- Foreign applicants, or applicants who graduated abroad, are required to attach to the application form (http://www.uniag.sk/en/admission-requirements/), in addition to the mandatory attachments, also Decision on recognition of the document on education.
- The Decision on Recognition of Educational Proof is issued by the competent Regional Office of School Administration according to the place of residence of the applicant. The procedure for processing the above documents is given on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic https://www.minedu.sk/uznavanie-ukonceneho-vzdelania-na-zakladnych-a-strednych-skolach/. In the case of a foreign applicant without a residence permit in the Slovak Republic, the decision is issued by the Regional Office of School Administration in Nitra, J. Vuruma 1, 949 01 Nitra application for recognition of a document of education.

Foreign applicants (the exception is applicants from the Czech Republic) who will study a study programme offered in the Slovak language at the SPU in Nitra must take an online test aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Languages Centre in Nitra in two dates: 28.5.2024 and 23.7.2024.
On the basis of the test results, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of his/her language proficiency level (levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The test and the certificate are subject to a fee (test: EUR 20,-, certificate: EUR 10,-).
If the applicant's level of linguistic competence is below A1, the applicant will not be admitted to the course.
If the applicant's language proficiency level is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the study, but will be obliged to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organised by the Centre of Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: 120,- EUR). The course will take place on 26.8.2024 - 6.9.2024. Upon completion of the course, a certificate of completion will be issued to the applicant.
If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the course.

Additional information
The main mission of the faculty is to prepare qualified, university-educated professionals oriented to knowledge and mastery of the latest knowledge of biological sciences focused on modern methods of production, evaluation and processing of food and specific products of biotechnology. The aim is to achieve biological and technological integrity of the system from the agricultural product to the food. In the course of the study, the student will acquire the knowledge for the production and evaluation of high quality and safe foodstuffs.
Students can be accommodated in the study homes A.Bernoláka, Mladosť and Akademická. Students eat in the canteen of the Youth and A. Bernoláka schools.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam
Applicants will be admitted according to their position on a computerised waiting list based on their results in the matriculation examination. In the evaluation, preference will be given to applicants who have taken chemistry and biology courses during their secondary school studies.When the planned number of students for a given study programme is filled, the Dean may accept additional applicants in the order of eligibility for another study programme of the faculty. After the admission procedure, the applicant will receive only one statement of acceptance or non-acceptance for all the study programmes to which he/she has applied.

- Secondary school graduates apply for (Level I) bachelor's degree programmes.
- Two faculty programs of study may be listed on one application - in order of interest in those programs (only one fee is paid, which is non-refundable).
- A certified copy of the matriculation certificate must be sent by post to the Department of Studies and Education, FBP, Tr. A. Hlinku 2, 949 76 Nitra
- In addition to the application form, it is obligatory to attach electronically in pdf - medical fitness for university studies from a doctor, proof of payment of the fee for the admission procedure and a curriculum vitae.
- After successful completion of the bachelor's degree, students may continue their engineering studies in any of the above study programmes.
- After the electronic application has been registered, a decision on conditional admission will be sent electronically to the applicant's e-mail address.
- Accepted applicant will receive the admission decree upon receipt of the officially certified matriculation certificate.
Form of entrance exam
The admission procedure will take place without the personal presence of the applicant.
A certified copy of the matriculation certificate shall be delivered by post to the address of the Department for Studies and Education of the FBP SPU in Nitra by 31 May 2024 (1st round of the admission procedure) or by 26 July 2024 (2nd round of the admission procedure), or for justified reasons also on the date set for enrolment in the study.
Foreign applicants shall send all required certified documents by post.
