Social work as a field of study

Social work is a single-discipline study aimed at preparing professionals for the field of social work at all levels. The standard length of study in the full-time form is 3 years (6 semesters)

Study in Social Work prepares university-educated, independent workers capable of providing, coordinating and directly delivering social care and social services for all groups of the population dependent on any type of social protection.

Social work as a discipline:

Social work is a multidisciplinary field of scientific knowledge that deals with the scientific understanding of social problems - their origins, causes, possible solutions, the question of the responsibility of the citizen and the state, the optimal level and forms of assistance for the individual, group or community.



Prospects of graduates

The study programme responds to the needs of practice - to prepare a modern social work assistant who is ready to work with a client in a risky situation and in a risky environment. Graduates of this study programme usually work directly with the target client group within the state administration, local government and the third sector. He/she will find employment in social service institutions, institutions for social protection of children and adult guardianship. It seeks to help ensure optimal social functioning and improve the quality of life of clients. He or she also has professional communication skills, can work in a team and foster interprofessional and interdisciplinary cooperation, and presents his or her views professionally. She can be employed in institutions and organisations under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, in the Ministry of Interior, in the Ministry of Justice, in the field of probation and mediation, in the field of public administration, as well as in the field of non-state actors. The graduate is prepared to work as a field worker and as an assistant counsellor who provides basic counselling to individuals, families, groups and the community. The graduate is prepared to work with a social worker in the preparation and implementation of research or project development. He/she is able to work on his/her further education.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition of admission to the three-year bachelor's study programme in the full-time form of study (completed by obtaining the degree "Bc") is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education.
Another condition of admission, in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites are admitted to the study, is a selection procedure.

Additional information

Applicants graduating in the school year 2023/2024 and earlier will send all necessary attachments with their application.
Applicants graduating in the school year 2024/2025 will submit all necessary attachments, except for the 4th grade report card and the high school diploma, which will be submitted by the deadline set by the faculty and which will be communicated to the applicant in writing in a timely manner.



Conditions for international students

The conditions of admission of foreigners, foreign students or students who
have completed secondary school studies abroad are the same as the conditions
of admission of students who have completed secondary school studies in the Slovak
Republic and are citizens of the Slovak Republic.

Proof of equivalence of education shall be provided by the applicant no later than on the day of enrolment in the
study.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

The selection procedure
remains:
1. From the evaluation of the achievement of the benefit during secondary school studies. The overall
average from the secondary school from 3.6 to 1.0 is expressed
linearly in the following values: average 1.0.... 100 points to 3.6 ... 0 points;
2. From the Motivation Letter , in which the applicant indicates his/her motivation to study as well as
the skills he/she has to master the study. Max. The maximum number of points is 10.
3. Specific activities such as participation in secondary school
scientific activities, volunteering, participation in various artistic,
sports competitions, participation in projects, etc., must be documented. For each documented
activity, the applicant may receive 2 points.
4. From the documented medical fitness to study confirmed by a doctor.
In connection with medical fitness it is necessary to emphasize the fact that during
the study students, in addition to theoretical lectures, will also undergo practice, where they will
work with a risky client in a risky environment.
The applicants who demonstrate the highest level of ability to
study, i.e.
The results of the entrance examination will be published on the faculty's website.
An applicant who has completed secondary school studies abroad will submit
strified documents of education in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the
recognition of documents of education and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on the amendment and
addition of certain acts.
5. Those applicants who have not passed the matriculation examination in
Slovak or Czech language must also pass a test in Slovak language - level B1, which
will be prepared by the faculty, as part of the
admission procedure. Only applicants who achieve at least a 60% pass rate in the Slovak language test can be admitted to the selection procedure under points 1 to 3.
