Social work (part-time study)
The third degree of the Social Work study programme is designed as a preparation for independent scientific work. Building on the knowledge acquired in previous studies, the study programme is oriented to deepen and improve theoretical knowledge with a priority orientation to the ongoing scientific discourse in the international and especially European space, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary understanding of the issues under study. Scientific knowledge is helped to develop through the student's knowledge of the epistemology of science, the specifics of social work by the current discourse in the field. Required electives allow the student to focus either on the field of social work conceptualization or on trends and innovations in research and therapeutic-counseling practice. The choice of this orientation depends on the chosen topic of the doctoral thesis. The scientific part of the study programme for the third degree is designed in such a way that it encourages the student to engage in the current research activities of the department and the department, to participate in the preparation of scientific projects, and to prepare for systematic scientific work through active participation in scientific events at home and abroad. The scientific programme requires the student to present the results of his/her own scientific research at domestic and foreign conferences and also to publish the results of his/her scientific work in domestic and foreign journals, scientific proceedings with the "A" publication output categorization. The study programme also includes a dissertation examination with a defence of the research plan and a final defence of the dissertation.

The PhD programme prepares future graduates to be able to design and conduct innovative and high-quality research within the field.
A graduate of the doctoral program in social work can find employment:
- Research institutions with a focus on the social and behavioural sciences,
- Within all levels of public administration and local government institutions, especially as a conceptualizer of social policy and its instruments;
As a researcher and teacher in educational institutions.

A graduate of the second cycle of university studies, especially of the study field of Social Work, as well as a graduate of related fields of study may apply for admission to doctoral studies. Before the admission procedure for doctoral studies, the faculty will announce the topics of the dissertation https://fzsp.truni.sk/temy-na-doktorandske-studium. Applicants for doctoral studies are invited to apply for these topics. A supervisor is appointed for each of the announced topics, who is a full-time employee of the faculty and approved by the Scientific Council. If necessary, the student may also be assigned a specialist supervisor, who must also be approved by the Scientific Council. The faculty, in agreement with the relevant supervisors of the field, may also accept a topic proposed by the applicant.
Additional information
The admission procedure for doctoral studies consists of an examination in professional subjects, including a presentation of the dissertation project and a professional discussion of it, which also includes methodological issues of the planned research, and an examination in a world language (English, German).
Conditions for international students
Graduates of foreign universities with adequate scope and content of studies who have nostrified diplomas may also apply for admission. If the applicant has completed his/her higher education studies abroad, the procedure is in accordance with Act No 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Qualifications and the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts and the procedures for the recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava in Trnava. If such a student wishes to study in Slovak language, he/she must prove his/her knowledge of the language when defending his/her research project.

The admission procedure consists of :
a) Written examination in language competences (working with a professional foreign language text) - max. 20 points
b) Written research project proposal - max 40 points
c) Oral presentation of the research proposal - max 40 points
Applicants will be selected and admitted on the basis of their achievements. The results of the admission procedure will be published on the faculty's website .
