Law

A graduate of the first cycle of the law degree programme takes all the essential legal disciplines of the national legal order, and these have a significant theoretical basis. He/she shall have a knowledge of European Union law with substantial links to the national legal order. Can think analytically and solve problems of practice at a solid level.

In practical terms, he is applicable: in carrying out preparatory work within the judiciary, as a practitioner in public administration, in corporate law, legal management and NGO law. The graduate is able to prepare normative legal acts and issue individual administrative acts within the framework of decision-making activities in public administration, and to deal with private non-litigious relations of natural and legal persons, including business entities.

The graduate of the 1st degree law study programme is able to think analytically and synthetically in all legal branches of the national legal order, which make up the legal system, with a deep and lasting theoretical, philosophical and ethical foundation and the basics of foreign legal terminology. Through a system of elective courses and compulsory electives, he can complete his specialisation in particular branches of law, while clinical subjects will bring him even closer to practice during his studies.

Structure of courses

Mandatory subjects

The structure of compulsory courses is chosen so that the student acquires theoretical knowledge of law and becomes familiar with all legal branches of the Slovak legal order and learns to apply them in practice, while the teaching of individual positive-legal disciplines begins from the first year.

Mandatory electives

The basic building block of the structure of the compulsory elective courses is the teaching of professional legal terminology, the stylistics of professional legal texts and their translation, while students may choose to study English, German or French.

Acquired skills in a professional foreign language is an irreplaceable comparative advantage of our graduates and allows them to study not only individual subjects in a foreign language but also the entire study programme in a foreign language in the future.

In addition, compulsory elective courses developing subjects focused on administrative law are included as an alternative: Cultural and Social Administration, Health Law, Administration of Administrative and Political Affairs, Economic Administration, Land Law, Construction Law.

Electives

Electives develop the student's studies and allow him/her to tailor his/her studies to his/her interests and preferences. In addition to law subjects, physical culture subjects are also included among the electives, and thus, in addition to developing the spirit, our students can also exercise their bodies in the newly renovated gymnasium.
