Prospects of graduates

Nursing graduates - Level 1, are able to fulfill the requirements of a discipline that integrates nursing theories with scientific knowledge from other disciplines necessary for the delivery of health services to the public in prevention as well as care in illness, rehabilitation, and follow-up care. Graduates are able to provide nursing care to an individual, family, group, or community in health or illness and to contribute to health, healing, or dying naturally with dignity. Graduates of the nursing program will be employed in outpatient and inpatient health care settings. They may practice independent nursing practice within the framework of current legislation. They have the prerequisites for continuing their specialisation and certification studies; successful graduates who have obtained the degree of "Bachelor" (B.Sc.) may continue their studies in a follow-up study programme at the second level of education in the field of nursing (M.Sc.). The study meets the requirements set out under Directive 2013/55/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council for the training of nursing staff and enables them to enter the labour market within the European Union.

Conditions of admission

1. Secondary education completed by the matriculation examination.

2. Completed application form for university studies (form available at ŠEVT or download https://www.minedu.sk/prihlaska-na-studium-vypis-z-danoveho-priznania-a-ine-formulare/) includes:

  • certified copy of the matriculation certificate
    Applicants who are graduating in the current school year shall submit a certified copy of the matriculation certificate and a copy (uncertified) of the end-of-year certificate from the 4th year additionally (§ 58 (1) of Act No. 455/2012 Coll., Art. amending Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended) before the enrolment deadline in order to send the decision on admission to the study in time.
    Without submitting a certified copy of the school-leaving certificate, the applicant will not be enrolled in the study (§ 59 (3) of Act No. 455/2012 Coll., as amended, which stipulates that a copy of the school-leaving certificate must be submitted to the university. No. 455/2005 of the Act on the Education of students, which amends Act No. 455/2005 of the Act on the Education of students. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended).
  • copies (uncertified) of the end-of-year report cards for the entire secondary school studies (not compulsory, only in the case of the condition of selection of applicants according to the study average during studies) + writing out the grades with the calculated average in the application form (not compulsory, only in the case of the condition of selection of applicants according to the study average during studies)
  • student applicants who have studied at a foreign secondary school - Decision on recognition of equivalence of the document of education (photocopy of the decision must be officially certified) at the same time also provide an uncertified copy of the foreign document of education,
  • resume (signed)
  • certification of medical fitness to practise - from a doctor (for medical fields only),
  • in the application form on page 3, the applicant for the external form of study shall provide details of employment,
  • proof of payment by deposit into an account

General information about the admission procedure:

  • An applicant may apply for more than one programme of study (each application is subject to an admission fee), and only one programme of study may be indicated on any one application form.
  • The College reserves the right not to open the first year of study of a study programme for which a sufficient number of applicants have not applied.
  • An applicant who has paid the admissions fee and has not been admitted by decision will not be refunded the fee.
  • An applicant who is not admitted on the basis of an incomplete application will also not be refunded the fee.
  • The registered application form with documents remains in the records and archives of the HEI - it is not returned.

Specific conditions of admission:

Full-time Form
Admission conditions are the same as the general conditions of the HEI + specific conditions:

  • completion of full secondary vocational education with a secondary school leaving certificate
  • completed general upper secondary education with a secondary school leaving certificate (gymnasium)
    or
  • completed upper secondary vocational education with a secondary school leaving certificate
  • medical fitness to practise according to Decree No 364/2009 of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic (doctor's certificate to be included in the application form)
  • certification from the employer on the job classification and length of professional experience, if the applicant is working at the time of submitting the application

Part-time Form

Admission conditions are identical to the general conditions of the HEI + specific conditions:

  • completion of a full secondary vocational education with a secondary school leaving certificate in nursing, general nursing, paediatric nursing and women's nursing
  • medical fitness to practise according to Decree No 364/2009 of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic (doctor's certificate to be included in the application form)
  • certification from the employer on the job classification and length of professional experience
