The graduate of the study programme will obtain the prerequisites for the performance of highly specialised and qualified professions in the field of legal science and research as a scientific researcher in university, academic, and other educational or scientific institutions of national, but also European character or as a university lecturer. He or she will also acquire the necessary skills and competences for a postdoctoral research position at a university.
A doctoral graduate may find employment as a teacher, researcher or manager in university, academic and other educational, scientific and research institutions. At the same time, due to the nature of law and legal science, he/she can find employment in the professions, in management positions within national and supranational institutions, in state administration and self-government and also in non-governmental organizations.
Indicated professions according to the Decree of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic No. 449/2020 Z. z., Taking into account the nature of the doctoral studies (since it is not a new study programme, graduates in the above positions are also in practice), the graduate can apply for e.g. as: university teacher (231) in the field of law, as a specialist in the field of law (261):
lawyer (in a company, institution, organization), attorney at law, law clerk, prosecutor, legislator, judge, notary, notary's clerk, bailiff, court expert, senior court official, as a professional worker in the field of law and similar workers (3411), as a manager of administrative and support activities not listed elsewhere (1219), of these jobs e.g..
Of course, certain occupations require other specific conditions in addition to higher education, e.g. successful completion of a selection procedure (e.g. For example, the successful completion of a selection procedure (e.g. judge, bailiff), attainment of a certain age (judge, prosecutor), successful completion of a professional judicial examination/notary examination/attorney/administrator examination, and fulfilment of other legal requirements
(e.g. integrity, required minimum length of legal practice, registration in the list
of attorneys of the Slovak Bar Association). A third-level university degree may prepare him/her for the quality practice of these professions.
A graduate of a doctoral study programme in the field of law can be employed in similar professions as a graduate of a master's study programme, however, thanks to doctoral studies, he/she is able to independently analyse problems of empirical research in his/her specialisation, is able to propose solutions, is proficient in the methodology of scientific work, has a sense of rhetorical competence, etc. He/she is therefore also eligible to act as a university teacher or a researcher.
The applicability of graduates is also monitored through questionnaires, the evaluations of which, together with the opinions of the management of the Faculty of Law, are available here: http://iuridica.truni.sk/absolventi-dotaznikoveprieskumy For example, the graduate questionnaire of the graduates of the Master's and PhD studies of the University of Trnava in Trnava who graduated in the academic year 2020/2021 shows that over 82% of the respondents from among the graduates of the Faculty of Law felt optimally prepared for employment in their field of study. The same questionnaire shows that more than 76% of respondents among the graduates of the Faculty of Law were employed in the field of law.

422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Documents on Education and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications
and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts and according to the procedures for the recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava.
