Materials

Engineering technologies and materials are an essential part of the production of machinery and equipment working in all sectors of the economy of the developed countries of the world. For the currently required high reliability of function and quality of a component, machine, tool, equipment, consumer item, etc., the selection of material, its metallurgical preparation and processing technology to products with final geometric shape, dimensions, and properties is very important. Therefore, it is essential for advanced economies to have experts who know the relationships between the composition, structure and properties of structural materials.
The graduate of the Technical Materials study programme knows the methods of development and evaluation of metallic and non-metallic materials used in engineering (e.g. nanomaterials, materials for high temperatures, for long-term loading in radiation or corrosive environments, for high-speed machining, ultra-lightweight materials, etc.).), knows the connections between their composition, structure and properties; has knowledge of new materials, technologies of their production and processing and methods of evaluation and influence of their utility properties; deepens and expands theoretical knowledge of technological disciplines in the field of metallurgy, progressive technologies of chipless and chipless metal processing, automation of technological processes and the possibility of their application in mechanical engineering enterprises, taking into account qualitative, technical-economic and ecological aspects.
Graduates of the doctoral studies are employed in research and development departments of manufacturing enterprises and companies in the field of production of technical materials, their technological processing into semi-finished products and products, as well as in the field of their quality control, purchasing and sales, service and maintenance; they can work in top managerial positions, in the management of production departments with sophisticated production technology, institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, technical universities and technical colleges. They can also be employed in consulting firms and organizations where higher level technical education is required.
