INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS

The graduates in the study programme Industrial Materials master methods of calculation, simulation and verification of model solutions of designing, machinery construction and machinery systems; they have knowledge of new materials, theory and technology of their production and processing, methods of their evaluation and influencing of their performance; they master creation and management of technological and production processes in machinery, they have  adequate knowledge of testing, operation and maintenance of machinery, further knowledge of selection of appropriate materials and engineering operations impacts on the environment.

The graduates are able to analyse, design, construct and maintain large-scale technical solutions covering the area ofmechanical engineering with an emphasis on industrial materials; they are able to conduct research with a high degree of creativity and independence. They have deep knowledge in the fields of mechanical engineering that allows them to manage teams of workers in this field, lead projects independently and take responsibility for complex solutions. They are able to build a respectable scientific approach. During their studies the students gain experience in formulation of hypothesis, experimental design, testing hypotheses and data analysis; they are able to apply advanced methods and techniques of design and development of technical materials for the needs of mechanical engineering constructions.

Prospects of graduates

Graduate of the engineering study programme Technical Materials within the study field of ENGINEERING:

  • possesses extensive professional and methodological knowledge at the level of assessment in the field of structural materials and technologies, including knowledge of the connections and relationships between chemical composition, structure and technically important performance properties; serving as a basis for their application use corresponding to the current state of knowledge and for the assessment of reliability, prediction of durability and safe operation of structures;
  • knows the theories and technologies of forming, welding, casting, machining and heat treatment of structural materials and can identify problems related to the implementation and operation of production-technological systems in which these advanced technologies can be implemented;
  • understands the material, financial and energy balances of engineering production processes;
  • has an overview of the most used structural materials in mechanical engineering - in terms of their production technology, processing technology, application and recycling;
  • is proficient in information systems enabling data collection, processing and analysis, control of experiments, manufacturing and materials processing processes;
  • has adequate engineering knowledge in the field of production, testing, technological processing, optimization of chemical composition of materials, their heat treatment, selection of suitable structural materials, exploitation and degradation of properties of the main types of engineering materials;

This knowledge builds on the previous basic general knowledge at the synthesis level, acquired in the framework of the Bachelor's degree (on the basic types, properties, preparation, processing and use of engineering materials).

The range and depth of knowledge of new engineering materials, methods of evaluating them and influencing their performance, including an understanding of the links and relationships between chemical composition, structure and properties, active way of teaching with practical demonstrations and a number of laboratory tasks (with emphasis on individual decision-making and defense of the obtained results), provide the prerequisites for rapid adaptability of the graduate in practice and his successful application in a wide range of industrial fields with possible application also in science and research. The result is a highly desirable graduate with good and easy employability on the global labour market. Graduates of the MSc Technical Materials will find employment in the operation of industrial engineering and metallurgical enterprises, in the automotive industry, in the bearing industry, in all areas of engineering technology, in organisations of a production, operational or diagnostic nature, e.g. as specialists in the field of quality management and evaluation of technical materials (e.g. in the field of quality management and evaluation of technical materials, e.g. in the field of engineering and metallurgy). e.g. metallurgical quality management specialist, metallographer, product quality management specialist, foundry quality management specialist, etc.); in the field of materials testing (e.g. non-destructive testing specialist); production technology (technologist, welding engineer, etc.); specialists in research and development (e.g. foundry specialist in research and development, researcher - e.g. in a research institute, academy of science, university, etc.).

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to engineering studies (second-degree study programme) is the acquisition of a first-degree university degree (Act on Higher Education No.131/2002 Coll., as amended). In the case of a foreign applicant or a student who has completed his/her studies abroad, he/she shall submit with his/her application for university studies, no later than at the time of enrolment, a decision on the recognition of the proof of completion of the first degree by the relevant institution in the Slovak Republic, or shall apply to UNIZA for the recognition of the proof of education.

Other admission conditions

Other conditions of admission of applicants to the study programmes of engineering studies of the Faculty of Engineering of UNIZA are set according to § 57 of the Act. The admission procedure shall be conducted in the form of a selection procedure in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites enter the study.

Additional information

All information regarding the admission procedure is published on the faculty's website:

https://www.fstroj.uniza.sk/index.php?option=com_sppagebuilder&view=page&id=219

Conditions for international students

For foreign applicants, the admission conditions apply as for applicants from the Slovak Republic. Foreign students studying in a language other than the national language pay tuition fees according to the conditions set out in Section 92(8) of the Higher Education Act. Tuition fees are set by a UNIZA directive and published for the relevant academic year on the University's website. Foreign students studying in the Slovak language do not pay tuition fees. Applicants from the Czech Republic may use the form valid in the Czech Republic to apply for studies. Applicants who do not have an active knowledge of Slovak or Czech are required to successfully complete language training (with the possibility of completing it at UNIZA).

For foreign applicants admitted on the basis of interstate agreements, bilateral agreements or for scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the conditions specified in the relevant documents apply.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

Without an entrance exam, applicants who have achieved a B.Sc. up to 2,6 /including the state final examination/ and have completed a study programme in mechanical engineering.

In the case of graduation from a study programme in another field of study, the guarantor of the relevant study programme will decide on the possibility of admitting the applicant without an entrance examination. In the event that the number of applicants /VP ≤ 2,6/ exceeds the capacity of the given study programme, all applicants will be admitted on the basis of the result of the entrance examination.
