Laboratory Testing Methods in Health Care (full-time study)

III. degree of the study programme Laboratory Investigation Methods in Health Care is designed as a preparation for independent scientific work. Building on the knowledge acquired in the previous studies, the study programme is oriented to deepen and improve theoretical knowledge with a priority orientation to the ongoing scientific discourse in the international and especially European area.

The scientific part of the study programme for the 3rd degree is designed, in accordance with the requirements of the description, to involve the student in the current research activities of the department, to participate in the preparation of scientific projects, and to prepare for scientific work through active participation in scientific events at home and abroad. The scientific programme requires the student to present the results of his/her own scientific research at national and international conferences and also to publish the results of his/her scientific work in national and international journals and scientific proceedings. Students are encouraged to focus their publishing activities primarily on A-level outputs.

Absolvent can be applied in:

- state and private medical institutions (medical laboratories - clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, clinical hematology, clinical immunology, pathology department)

- research institutions with a medical or biomedical focus as a research scientist

- public administration in the field of health policy development

- as a teacher and researcher in educational organisations

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to the doctoral study programme in the full-time and part-time form of study (completed by obtaining the degree "PhD.") is the completion of the second cycle of higher education studies. A candidate for doctoral studies is able to demonstrate knowledge and abilities at the level of graduation from the master's degree of the LVMvZ study programme.

An applicant who has completed his/her studies at a level 2 HEI abroad must submit a decision on the equivalence of the education obtained.

An admission procedure is another admission requirement to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites are admitted to the studies. Applicants must submit:

  1. the results of the entrance examination will be published on the faculty's website,
  2. applicants who demonstrate the highest level of ability to study, i.e. achieve the highest number of points, will be admitted to the course.
  3. An applicant who has completed higher education studies abroad shall submit nostrified documents of education in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Documents of Education and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts.


Conditions for international students

Graduates of foreign universities with adequate scope and content of studies who have nostrified diplomas may also apply for admission. If the applicant has completed his/her higher education studies abroad, the procedure is in accordance with Act No 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Qualifications and the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts and the procedures for the recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava in Trnava. If such a student wishes to study in Slovak language, he/she must prove his/her knowledge of the language when defending his/her research project.

Proof of equivalence of education shall be provided by the applicant no later than on the day of the entrance examination.

General information on the admission exam

PhD study admissions for the study programme Laboratory Testing Methods in Health Care comprises an examination from vocational subjects, including a presentation of the dissertation thesis project and an expert discussion on it. It includes also methodological questions about the planned research and language examination (in English, German, French or Russian language). The admission takes into consideration also the scope of publishing and other professional activities, as well as the readiness of the applicant to work with foreign scientific literature. 



Form of entrance exam

The admission procedure consists of :

a) - written test - foreign language examination - the selected foreign language shall be indicated by the applicant in the application form (max 60 points)

b) - oral interview focused on the knowledge that is a prerequisite for successful entry to doctoral studies, while the topics and topics of questions of the oral interview in individual disciplines are published on the faculty's website - https://fzsp.truni.sk/okruhy-otazok-na-prijimacie-pohovory (max 60 points)

c) presentation and discussion of the project on the topic of the dissertation - the applicant presents his/her own project on the topic of the dissertation to the committee, which was submitted with the application - the specified scope of the project is from 2000 to 3500 words - the committee evaluates the quality of the developed project, the feasibility of the project, the choice of the research strategy, the presentation of the applicant's scientific research plan, the applicant's response to the questions and suggestions of the committee. The dissertation project should be consulted with the supervisor or a specialist supervisor in advance.

- - other documented prerequisites of scientific activity - e.g. participation in the School of Science and Technology, obtained awards for studies, own publishing activity of the applicant, etc.
