Catholic Theology
Doctoral studies in Catholic theology have two degrees. The graduate of the first degree receives the academic degree of "Licentiate of Theology". In this degree, special disciplines are taken according to the nature of one's specialization, while seminars and exercises are held to acquire competence in theological-scientific research. The doctoral candidate demonstrates his/her competence in theological-scientific research by defending his/her thesis and passing the licensing examination. By the dissertation examination and the defence of the dissertation, the second-degree graduate demonstrates his/her ability and readiness for independent scientific and creative activity in the field of research or development. The doctoral candidate is capable of a high degree of analysis and synthesis of knowledge in the narrow specialisation of the relevant field and also has a very good overview of the existing literature. The graduate has the theoretical portfolio to teach theological disciplines at the university level.
Prospects of graduates
The graduate of the study finds employment primarily as a teacher of theological disciplines in universities and as a researcher or an employee of ordinariates.
Graduates also find employment in the clerical editorial offices of the mass media, as members of ecclesiastical tribunals (ecclesiastical courts - judges, notaries, advocates), as members in various commissions of the Catholic Church where higher academic degrees are required.
