  1. The student is able to think independently, critically and analytically in relation to history with an interdisciplinary approach.

Prospects of graduates

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the third degree of the university study of history has extensive general comprehensive and integrated knowledge in the field of general and Slovak political, economic, social and cultural history. His/her knowledge is also oriented towards specific problems of historical science in terms of knowledge of causal relationships within the field, where he/she is able to develop new procedures, solutions and theories. He is able to argue his knowledge both in writing and orally, including at the national and international level. He/she takes into account social, scientific and ethical aspects when formulating research objectives and interpreting research results. Is able to coordinate a team in solving research tasks in the relevant scientific field The graduate has studied history in the context of the pursuit of a dialogue between reason and faith in the spirit of the Catholic intellectual tradition.

General information on the admission exam

The application form must be accompanied by:

a) proof of payment of the fee

- in the case of a paper application, to be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form,

- in the case of an electronic application, to be attached as an appendix;

(b) a structured curriculum vitae;

c) a list of published professional and scientific papers (if the applicant has published);

d) in the case of applicants to the HIST doctoral programme, also:

- dissertation project (approaching the topic) in the range of 6 - 10 standard pages, which must include the thesis, or the objectives of the thesis, the outline of the thesis and a list of sources and literature on the topic of the thesis, the topicality of the research, the theoretical and methodological background of the problem, the procedure for the implementation of the project, the practical benefits of the research,

- dissertation project in the range of 6 - 10 standard pages

- a list of the studied literature on the selected topic in the range of 3-4 standard pages (does not have to be identical with the list from the dissertation project), which the candidate will be able to discuss competently with the committee.

The following must be delivered to the study department no later than the day of enrolment:

a) certified copies of the documents of graduation (master's/engineering/doctoral diploma, diploma supplement and state examination certificate)

- Applicants who have been issued documents of graduation by the Faculty of Arts of KU (they have completed the required studies at the Faculty of Arts of KU) do not need to submit them;

b) a decision on recognition of a foreign document of education for the purpose of continuing studies in the Slovak Republic (applies to applicants who have obtained the required higher education abroad).

Confirmation of application registration and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or conventional mail.

Deadline for verification of admission requirements: until 16 June 2024

A written decision on the outcome of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of fulfilment of the admission requirements. The written decision shall be hand-delivered to the applicants.

The signed paper (not electronic) application shall be sent to the following address:

Student applicants can also submit only electronic application form without the need to print it, sign it and send it to the postal address of the faculty.

Form of entrance exam
  • oral interview on the topic, motivation and the candidate's qualifications (max. 8 points);
  • a short test of the candidate's level of English language skills (max. 2 points).

10 - 6 points: successful completion of the entrance examination.

5 - 0 points: failure in the entrance examination.
