Prospects of graduates

The graduate of Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing of the Earth has a broad knowledge of theoretical and empirical knowledge in the field of geoinformatics and remote sensing of the Earth. He is proficient in the latest geoinformatics methods and geospatial technologies. He/she is able to solve complex geospatial tasks and creatively apply knowledge from geoinformatics and related disciplines in practice. The graduate is able to develop the theoretical and methodological base of geoinformatics, especially in the field of geospatial analyses, modelling of landscape processes and application of state-of-the-art remote sensing methods. The student is proficient in the principles of scientific research, including publishing in scientific journals and presenting scientific results. Is able to formulate research questions and, through the appropriate application of methodological procedures, to address them creatively. Has an excellent overview of the latest knowledge, methods and technologies in the field and can apply them effectively in practice. Graduates of this study programme will find employment mainly in research and development organisations, universities, state and local government bodies, as well as in the private sector in the development of geographic information systems software and in solving tasks of collecting and processing landscape data using geographic information systems.

Conditions of admission

successful completion of the entrance exam

Additional information

The admissions committee will assess the applicant's qualifications comprehensively on the basis of his/her academic achievements at lower levels of education and his/her previous research and publication activities. Particular emphasis will be placed on the results of participation in student scientific conferences and research projects. Letters of recommendation from the applicant's previous supervisors, justifying the applicant's qualifications for doctoral studies, are welcomed. In the oral part of the entrance examination, the candidate will present his/her professional profile and his/her research plan in relation to the chosen dissertation topic. The members of the committee may ask questions related to the selected topic which would demonstrate sufficient professional competence of the applicant. If the nature of the question so requires, the candidate may request adequate time to prepare a response. The Committee may also ask the candidate to demonstrate active knowledge of a foreign language.

General information on the admission exam

Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing of the Earth is open to graduates of the Master's degree programme in Geography, interdisciplinary and teaching studies combined with Geography, as well as graduates of related fields of study. Related fields of study will be assessed by the programme supervisor.
