A graduate of doctoral studies (PhD.) after graduation should demonstrate the ability to advance theoretical knowledge in the field and readiness for independent creative activity, to solve at a high theoretical and practical level new problems brought by practice. The graduate should be able to communicate in the world language and thus find employment not only at home but also abroad as an independent creative designer or consultant, scientific or research worker or as a teacher at a university. The core of knowledge of a graduate of doctoral studies consists of the basics of thermo-technics, hydro-technics , basic knowledge and orientation on the use of alternative energy sources, basic knowledge of fuels and their efficient use in energy production, knowledge of waste and the possibilities of their energy use, knowledge of technologies of production and transformation of energy , knowledge of the design and construction of energy machinery and equipment, knowledge of the physico-chemical properties of construction materials, knowledge of the distribution and efficient use of thermal energy, basic knowledge of the legal context and basic knowledge of the managerial and marketing context required in the development and application of technologies in production and in communication with customers.

Conditions of admission

Basic condition of admission
The basic condition of admission to doctoral studies (third degree study programme) is the acquisition of a university degree of the second degree (Act on Higher Education No.131/2002 Coll., as amended). In the case of a foreign applicant or a student who has completed his/her studies abroad, he/she shall submit with his/her application for university studies, no later than at the time of enrolment, a decision on the recognition of the document on the completion of the second degree by the relevant institution in the Slovak Republic, or shall apply to UNIZA for the recognition of the document on the education.


Other conditions of admission


1. No entrance examination
All applicants for studies go through a selection procedure.


2. Selection procedure
The selection procedure for doctoral studies is conducted by interviewing each applicant separately before the admissions committee.


Rules of the selection procedure
The content of the interview is a part mapping the applicant's overview in the professional field related to the selected topic of doctoral studies and another part, aimed at verifying knowledge of foreign languages and prerequisites for independent scientific work. The ranking of the candidates is done by the committee in a secret ballot.



Conditions for international students

For foreign applicants, the admission conditions apply as for applicants from the Slovak Republic.
Foreign students who study in a language other than the state language pay tuition fees according to the conditions specified in Section 92 (8) of the Higher Education Act. The tuition fee is set by a UNIZA directive and published for the respective academic year on the University's website. Foreign students studying in the Slovak language do not pay tuition fees. Applicants from the Czech Republic may use the form valid in the Czech Republic to apply for studies. Applicants who do not have an active knowledge of Slovak or Czech are required to successfully complete language training (possibility to take it at UNIZA). For foreign applicants admitted on the basis of interstate agreements, bilateral treaties or for scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the conditions specified in the relevant documents apply.
