Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the study programme Economics and Business Management in the field of Economy and Management acquire deep theoretical knowledge of economics and management with an emphasis on the area given by the topic of their dissertation. Graduates master the scientific methods of basic and applied research in the field of economics and business management. They can accurately define problems, analyse economic and managerial phenomena and processes in the company, generalize and standardize the acquired knowledge and contribute to the development of economic-managerial theory, methodology and practice and comprehensively perceive marketing-managerial aspects of business labour market. Graduates will also acquire the principles and methods of scientific work of basic and applied research, the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and the ability to present the results of their work in a foreign language in various spheres of activities and types of enterprises. Graduates master the latest scientific and professional knowledge, are able to formulate, test and verify scientific hypotheses, work with market-managerial and marketing incentives in order to further develop and advance the knowledge of scientific discipline in the context of sustainable socio-economic development. They find their application especially as university teachers and researchers. They are also used as highly specialized experts in business and public spheres on the international labour market.

Conditions of admission

A graduate of a second-degree study programme or a study programme pursuant to Section 54 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended, may apply for doctoral studies.

In addition to the application form for the study, the applicant shall provide the following documents:

  • resume - structured
  • copy of proof of payment of the admission fee
  • officially certified copies of the following documents of education: diploma, state examination certificate, supplement
  • for the full-time form - transcript of marks for all 5 years of study
  • a list of their published articles or other professional activities
  • diplomas from faculty and international scientific professional conferences
  • motivation letter (justification of interest in the study)
  • dissertation project

The study programme is accredited by the Accreditation Commission, an advisory body of the Slovak Government.



Conditions for international students

An applicant from abroad or an applicant who has completed the 2nd cycle of higher education at a foreign university shall submit a decision on recognition of the document of education for academic purposes issued by the UE in Bratislava. The applicant shall apply for recognition in writing to the EU in Bratislava well in advance. The application shall be accompanied by the original or a certified copy of the document of education issued by the foreign university (diploma) and an official translation of the said document, a certified copy of the transcript of courses taken and examinations passed and an official translation of this transcript, a certified copy of the supplement to the diploma (if issued by the foreign university) and an official translation of this supplement.

General information on the admission exam

The admission procedure shall take place before an Admissions Committee consisting of a chairperson and at least two members appointed by the Dean. The following must be brought to the examination:

  • ID card
  • invitation letter

Admission test:

  • demonstration of knowledge of economic theory
  • demonstration of knowledge of a foreign language (written form, oral form on the day of the examination)
  • presentation of a written dissertation project on the chosen topic (at least 10 pages)
  • thesis topics are written by supervisors approved by the Faculty's Scientific Council and can be found on the Faculty's website

Applicants for the external form of study who will be enrolled in the first year are obliged to pay tuition fees for each academic year during the standard length of study 1 000,- EUR.

An applicant who submits a duly completed application form, encloses all attachments and pays the admission fee within the specified deadline will be invited to take the entrance examination. No later than 10 days before the admission examination for the third cycle of studies, the faculty concerned shall send an invitation to the admission examination to the applicants who have applied. Only those applicants admitted on the basis of the admission procedure may be enrolled in the third cycle study programme.

The fee is not refundable after the registration of the application in case of non-attendance at the entrance examination or in case of cancellation of the application by the applicant. If the applicant is unable to take part in the entrance examination for serious reasons, he/she may apply in writing to the Dean of the faculty for a refund of part of the fee (up to a maximum of EUR 8.00). The application for a refund of part of the fee, accompanied by proof of clear reasons, must be delivered to the Department of Science and Doctoral Studies of the faculty concerned no later than three days prior to the entrance examination (date of postmark).
