History and Praxis of the Contemporary Art
Master's studies at the Academy of Fine Arts focus on the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge based on the current state of the art and on the development of skills, their creative application
in the pursuit of a profession or in the continuation of higher education according to the doctoral study programme. Graduates of the master's degree programme receive a second
degree university education. The standard length of study for the second degree programme at the VŠVU is two years.
The final thesis of the master's degree is a diploma thesis and the study is completed by a state examination. Graduates of the Master's degree at the VŠVU are awarded the academic degree of "Master" (abbreviated as "Mgr.").

A candidate for the MA in History and Practice of Contemporary Art can become a student of the chosen study programme only on the basis of passing the admission process. If a student has completed his or her undergraduate studies, then he or she may apply for admission to the School of Fine Arts and Art in the prescribed manner. The admission procedure includes an interview and written verification of the applicant's interest in the study programme and the field of study to which he/she is applying, as well as verification of cultural orientation in general and general insight into the theory and practice of contemporary art, art and cultural issues within the scope of the Bachelor's degree.

In the event that the admission interviews to the VŠVU are held before the completion of the first degree programme, the applicant is admitted to the Master's programme conditionally. Definitive admission is conditional upon successful completion of the first degree programme. Proof of completion of the first cycle programme must be submitted within ten days of completion of the first cycle programme, but no later than the enrolment deadline of September 2024, i.e. by submitting a certified copy of the bachelor's diploma and the supplement.

A candidate for a Master's degree at the AFAD may apply for a maximum of two of the following study programmes (specify the studio to which he/she is applying!) - the applicant pays the fee twice. An applicant can also apply to two studios within one study programme - the applicant pays the fee only once.

Conditions for international students
All foreign applicants (with the exception of Czech applicants) must be proficient in the Slovak language at B1 level by the time they start their studies.
Foreign applicants and applicants who have studied abroad, in case of admission to the study, shall submit a decision on recognition of a document of education issued abroad no later than by the enrolment date (September 2024)

The admissions committee is appointed by the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts. The committee takes into account the results of the admission procedure such as the interview, the written essay and its different parts, which will be evaluated and scored, and at the same time the academic achievements during the bachelor's studies are also taken into account.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Step 1: The electronic application form is located:
- for students of the VŠVU in the AIS (left menu - application form)
- for students from other schools on the VŠVU website https://www.vsvu.sk/en/admissions/online-application/ The applicant must upload a professional CV directly into the electronic application
Step 2: Submit the following attachments to the email address kozakova@vsvu.sk:
- proof of payment of the admission fee (e.g. internet banking payment statement) - the fee must be paid no later than 22 May 2024, the variable symbol, the specific symbol and as a Note or Additional Information - NAME and SIGNATURE of the applicant; otherwise the payment will not be paired
- electronic copy of the bachelor's diploma, in case of a diploma issued abroad also with an official translation into Slovak language (except for Czech documents)
- electronic copy of the diploma supplement or a transcript of the completed courses with the calculated weighted study average (applicants from a university other than VŠVU - request the transcript from the study department of their school), in the case of a document issued abroad (except for Czech universities) also with an official translation into the Slovak language or the diploma supplement in English
- foreign applicants and applicants who have studied abroad, in the case of admission to studies, shall submit a decision on the recognition of a document of education issued abroad at the latest by the time of enrolment for studies

Step 3: Between May 31, 2024 and June 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., the applicant shall enter the following:
- A written essay in the range of 3 to maximum 5 standard pages, in which they should express their opinion on the following areas:
a) which art works they can relate to
b) which books, including art-history or films about artists they have read or seen
c) which exhibitions they have visited or they have remembered, what has made them interesting in an artistic or curatorial way.
d) which fine artists, art periods or movements they would like to study about and why,
e) how they view the purpose of the activity of an historian, theoretician or curator of the contemporary art in today´s world. - curriculum vitae
according to the instructions that will be sent on 31 May 2024 to the candidate's email address that will be provided in the application form.
The admission process will be conducted on 24 June 2024 by interviewing the candidate with the Admissions Committee (to be conducted in person or online for applicants from abroad who so request). In addition to the interview, the Admissions Committee also evaluates electronically submitted portfolios with cover letters, which are used to examine the applicant's individual abilities and aptitudes to independently and creatively master the requirements for a master's degree at the University of Applied Sciences, the applicant's understanding of issues and events, and the applicant's level of thinking and knowledge in the field.
The Admissions Committee also evaluates the applicant's electronically submitted portfolios with cover letters.

Form of entrance exam
The admission procedure consists of the following parts:
- a written essay of at least 3 and no more than 5 standard pages with published questions for the applicant (the essay is in electronic format).
- Candidate Interview - the interview will be conducted in person or online for applicants from abroad who request it. The applicant will be informed in due time at the email address provided in the application form.
Each member of the admissions committee scores the written essay and interview (range 0 - 5 points), and a ranking of applicants is created based on the sum of the scores from each member of the committee. The results of the evaluation and the ranking of the applicants are submitted by the admissions committee to the Rector of the Academy of Performing Arts, who decides on the admission to study the study programme conducted by the Academy of Performing Arts. The admission decision will be given to the applicant in accordance with the law and the regulations of the AFAD.
