Chemical Engineering

The graduates of PhD study program are prepared not only with complex knowledge in chemical engineering for the requirements of the production control, applied and basic research, design, projection and optimization of chemical, biochemical and food processing industries and environmental technologies, but also with the skills in scientific research and development methods used in the monitoring of momentum, energy and mass transport, chemical kinetics and equilibrium in multiphase systems. Deep understanding of microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of multiphase systems is the fundament for the design, simulation, optimization, production safety improvement and environmental protection, processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biochemical technology as well as energy production, etc., As the only in Slovakia, the PhD. study program is compatible with similar ones in the world educating students to be able to apply modern research methods also in micro- and nanosystems (microstructured systems and medical engineering), and to provide independent and original solutions in the multidiscipline field of “Chemical Engineering“.

Chemical Engineer Philosophiae doctor – PhD – knows modern theoretical and experimental research and development methods used in the scientific discipline “Chemical Engineering” and applies the knowledge in balancing momentum, energy and mass transport in reacting complex systems also under conditions of micro- and nanosystems. He/she utilizes the knowledge gained in effective design and simulation, optimization, safety improvement and environmental protection in existing equipments in chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing and energy production.  He/she is qualified for independent scientific and research work, leading research teams and for managerial positions in chemical, food processing and pharmaceutical research. He/she is prepared to effectively coordinate research activities of a research group, present the results in scientific literature, communicate within the international scientific community and implement the obtained research results in practice.

Prospects of graduates

A graduate of the study program can be employed in the academic environment, as well as in governmental or company research institutes but also in industry, being prepared for managerial positions in production enterprises, implementation of modern elements and technologies, and existing production processes rationalization.

The acquired knowledge and experience in identification, analysis and solutions of real technical problems, applying mathematical and experimental modelling of processes and equipments in fundamental and applied research represent a professional basis for efficient decision making in implementation of progressive methods in technologies and effective utilization of materials and energies in technical practice.

Deep theoretical knowledge supported by good overview of the research and development of the scientific field create solid basis for formulating the conceptions of the scientific discipline in progressive field of new technologies development using progressive materials, and for the utilization of unconventional, especially renewable raw materials providing thus for the demands of the society respecting environmental and safety requirements.

Graduates of this multidisciplinary study program are successful not only in Slovakia but also abroad.
