Charity and Mission Work

Charity and Mission Work is a doctoral program in social work. The study programme focuses mainly on theoretical knowledge and its practical application in social work with a focus on problems related to living and working conditions such as poverty, unemployment, etc., related to quality of life and prevention of socio-pathological phenomena. This field of study is focused not only on the extension of knowledge based on the current state of knowledge, but especially on the student's own contribution to it, which is the result of scientific research and independent creative activity.

The aim is to educate top scientific and professional staff and their application in the development of state social policy, the acquisition of new theoretical knowledge, in the planning of activities with an impact on administration, legislation with a possible impact on the quality of life.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the doctoral studies in social work at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University in Ružomberok has to master the scientific methods and techniques of scientific research in the field of social and human sciences. He/she is able to solve problems within the specialization of Charitable and Missionary Work, which is characterized by the activities of religious and non-profit organizations:

  • Research projects;
  • Specialized social counseling and social therapy, as well as supervision;
  • Social designing with orientation to the solution of macro and micro social problems, e.g. in the development of regions, active employment policy, etc.
  • Guidance and coordination of social projects and programmes.

The graduate of the doctoral degree has theoretical knowledge of all the activities carried out by social workers, is able to organize operational research, has the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to educate in universities in the field of social work. The graduate has the theoretical knowledge and training for scholarly activity and has also already demonstrated that he/she has mastered the activities related to the development of social work theory and methodology with teaching in universities.

Conditions of admission
  • An application form with all necessary attachments delivered by post or in person to the address of the TF Study Department for Doctoral Studies
  • Completed studies of a master's degree in the given field or in a related field
  • Successful completion of the admission procedure


Additional information

The thesis topic and tutor must also be included in the application form.

Attach a dissertation project of 3-4 pages (justification for the choice of topic, aim, methods, expected outputs, references and an approximate scheme of the thesis)

In the application form, please indicate which two of the two offered foreign languages you wish to take the entrance examination from.

Form of entrance exam

The scope of the written entrance examination is to test the basic knowledge of the Master's degree in the given field of study in the form of a test and an examination in two world languages. The language exam will consist of writing a brief justification of the decision to pursue a PhD in the first chosen foreign language and a descriptive translation of the submitted article from the second chosen language into Slovak.

Choice of the following foreign languages:

  • English language
  • German language
  • French language
  • Spanish language
  • Italian language
  • Russian language

The scope of the oral entrance examination is the presentation of the framework project of the dissertation chosen by the candidate. The candidate submits a written proposal for the elaboration of the chosen dissertation topic, which includes: the rationale for the choice of the topic, the aim, the methods, the expected outputs, the literature and an approximate scheme of the work
