Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the Bachelor studies are able to perform the profession of biomedical physicist. This includes a wide spectrum of knowledge from all areas of physical scientific disciplines, mathematics and informatic scientific fields, knowledge from the area of theoretical medicine, biology, chemistry and border disciplines.

The core of knowledge, abilities and skills is based on the requirements on the abilities of a graduate:

understanding basic physical, chemical and biological principles of organisation of living systems,

solving of theoretical problems based on corresponding mathematic methods,

setting and using experimental equipment, realising and evaluating experiments,

proposing and realising computer simulations of physical and biomedical phenomena, knowing at least one programmeming language,

applying physical and medical knowledge in solutions of issues of social praxis and the ability to communicate with experts from other areas of science and technology,

being able to apply physical laws to the phenomena of everyday life, to understand them correctly and measure on their basis related physical figures, evaluate these statistics, process and interpret them,

spreading physical and biomedical knowledge on a comprehensible basis among amateur public,

working with basic software and in the area of statistical data processing, table  processors, processing of texts, hypertexts, graphic presentation and result publication,

processing, publishing and presenting with other methods the results of professional activity, knowing standard computer office software equipment,

communicating in foreign language,

understanding basic social, economic and legal contexts,

respecting basic principles of humanity, ethics and principles of sustainable development for all,

ability to learn independently, use available information sources and participate in permanent education.

Graduates are prepared for successful studies at the Master's degree of university education. All acquired knowledge, abilities and skills are built and enhanced with an emphasis on humanity, respect for human rights, ethics of behavior and considering economic, legal  and social context, what is reflected in including corresponding subjects into the common basis and giving a possibility of choice with this focus throughout studies.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition of admission to the Bachelor's study is the completed secondary education or completed secondary vocational education.



Conditions for international students

Applicants from abroad may apply in a similar way as the citizens of the Slovak Republic. Foreigners who studied and successfully passed the final exams at the Institute of Language and Professional Preparation of the Comenius University are admitted to the faculty without entrance exam. In case of foreigners - self-payers, the annual tuition is set to be USD 10,000. Instruction in English language is realised only in cased of a minimum number of five students in a group.



Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

Graduates of secondary schools with a secondary school leaving exam from at least one profile subject will be admitted to study Bachelor's study programmes at the Faculty of mathematics, physics and informatics in the first year without entrance exams to all study programmes with the exception of those in which the number of applied exceeded 1.5 times of the planned number of admitted. The dean will admit without entrance exams all applicants who are successful participants of the regional or national round of olympiad in at least one of the profile subjects in the A or B category organised by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, the Union of Slovak mathematicians and physicists and the Slovak Informatics Society and those who have successfully participated of the national round of the Secondary professional activity in the field that is their profile subject or who have successfully participated in the national round of the Tournament of young physicists if physics is their profile subject.

General information on the admission exam

During entrance exams to the Bachelor's studies, knowledge on the level of secondary grammar school and ability to use the knowledge when dealing with issues is required. Applicants to the studies of informatics and expected to have a basic knowledge of a programmeming language. Knowledge of at least one world language is welcome. Applicants to study of economic and financial mathematics and managerial mathematics are expected to have a good knowledge of the English language (some lectures are in this language).

Applicants may apply on one application form to study a maximum of three study programmes. Applicants indicating more than one study programme will be able to take entrance exams for all subjects corresponding with the selected programmes in consideration. If an applicant fulfils the conditions of admission to several study programme, he/she will be admitted to that one for which he/she applied with highest priority. We recommend to use this possibility and to indicate alternative study programmes on the second and third place. These will not influence admitting to the programme indicated with a higher priority and may be useful as a substitute solution especially in case of popular study programmes. Teaching field is to be indicated by the applicant for the combination of teaching subjects (e.g. mathematics and physics).

The faculty will send to the signed up applicants instructions regarding the admission procedure no later than 30 days ahead of the entrance exam. If an applicant can not take the entrance exam on the regular date due to colliding entrance exam at another faculty, he/she can request a change of the exam date no later than on June 1, 2010. if the applicant indicates more programmes on the application form, he/she will take the entrance exam in all subjects corresponding with the given programmes in consideration. If he/she fulfils conditions of admission to more programme, he/she will be admitted to that one which is indicated with highest priority. The entrance exam from biology, as well as the practical exam from physical education is performed in cooperation with other faculties of the Comenius University (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Comenius University). The date of the practical (atitude) exam from physical education will be set by the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of the Comenius University.
