Conditions of admission

• The requirements set for applicants to the Master's degree programme in Film and Television Directing and Screenwriting are aimed at identifying the basic prerequisites for successful completion of the Master's degree, which primarily include the successful completion of the Bachelor's degree, the knowledge acquired by the Master's degree, acquired knowledge, skills and practical experience in screenwriting or directing in the field of fiction or documentary film, or at least in a related field of production, appropriate personal maturity, as well as a demonstrable interest in film, culture and the arts, which has been confirmed by the student's previous studies and life experience. In an age of available technologies that allow the media transmission of information of an artistic nature - photography, video production - it is natural for the applicant to confirm his or her talent with his or her own work. The Talent Committee thus has the opportunity to assess not only the applicant's level of knowledge but also his or her talent.

• The admission condition for applicants for the Master's degree is the successful completion of the first level of higher education. In case the admission interviews at FDU are held before the candidate's undergraduate examination, the candidate is admitted to study conditionally.
• Definite admission to study is conditional upon successful completion of the undergraduate examination. Proof of completion of the first cycle of higher education must be submitted by the applicant within ten days of passing the bachelor's examination, but at the latest by the deadline for enrolment in the course of study.
• FDU AU determines additional conditions for admission to the study of individual study programmes in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and prerequisites are admitted to the study.
• The conditions imposed and the method of verifying their fulfilment must enable the selection of applicants who demonstrate the highest degree of talent, ability, knowledge for study in the study programme.
• The entrance examination is designed to test the level of knowledge, talent, thinking, skills and abilities of the applicant in the light of the specific requirements arising for the applicant from the chosen master's degree programme.

General information on the admission exam

The specific requirements for entrance examinations and the way they are conducted according to the accredited master's degree programmes are published on the website www.fdu.aku.sk

An applicant with a disability, at his/her request, FDU AU will determine the form of the entrance examination and the manner of its administration, taking into account his/her health problems.

• Because of the application of the same assessment criteria for all applicants to study at FDU AU, it is not possible to set an alternative date for the admission procedure.
• The entrance examination consists of two parts and is conducted on one or more dates, if necessary and depending on the number of applicants. The dates of the entrance talent tests will be adjusted annually according to the current study schedule and the number of applicants.
• The practical part of the talent exam is aimed at testing the applicant's ability to independently produce creative outputs.
• The entrance talent test consists of the submission of homework, a written test, the implementation of practical assignments and an oral interview with the members of the committee.
• In an exceptional situation (state of emergency, bad pandemic situation, etc.), the examination committee may decide to hold the entrance examination online or on the basis of the evaluation of the homework.

• If a candidate is unable to attend the admission procedure for serious reasons, in particular for health reasons, the Dean of the Faculty shall, at his/her written request and in agreement with the Head of the Department, set an alternative date for the admission procedure. This request shall be submitted by the applicant, together with proof of the reason for non-attendance, no later than five days after the date on which he or she was due to take part in the procedure.
