Theatre Dramaturgy and Directing

The student of the Bachelor's degree is systematically guided to the profiling of his/her own creative theatrical (directing and dramaturgical) personality on the basis of the complementarity of gradually deepened knowledge, skills, experience and acquired competences in the field of arts with a focus on theatre arts and stage production.

Core topics of the core knowledge of the field of study:
- degree of interest and talent disposition for the study of the chosen field,
- quality of artistic outputs submitted, creation of dramaturgical and directorial concepts,
- realization of a stage idea , ability to think originally about artistic practice,
- level of knowledge of Slovak and world literature, culture and art and interest in theatre production,
- general personal, linguistic and communication prerequisites for acting as a theatre dramaturg or theatre director,
- basics of technological and digital literacy.



Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the Bachelor's degree of the study programme Theatre dramaturgy and directing can apply as:
- director in professional independent theatres, amateur theatres and chamber studio theatres (the ability to prepare and stage productions in the range of: one-act plays, shorter dramatic works, full-length plays),
- assistant director in professional repertory theatres (ability to consult the concept of the production with the director, help in the organization of the individual stage components of the production, organization of external collaborators on the artistic work, approx. directing assigned sequences and short scenes),
- dramaturg in professional independent theatres, amateur theatres and chamber studio theatres,
- assistant dramaturg in professional repertory theatres (ability to consult the concept of the production with the director and dramaturg, preparation of documents and bulletin creation, dramaturgical explication of the work, annotation of the work, dramaturgical adaptations of the text, comparison of artistic translations, working with the resources necessary to stage the production),
- director, manager, dramaturg and coordinator of agency activities and small theatre projects,
- director of cultural and event events,
- lecturer in dramaturgy in professional theatres,
- assistant and support worker in artistic scientific workplaces,
- cultural officer,
- worker and methodologist in outreach centres,
- worker in the field of advertising, PR and marketing for art projects,
- worker in art agencies and production companies,
- lecturer in leisure activities and circles for children and adults in the field of dramatic arts,
- lecturer in theatre workshops and member of expert committees and juries in independent and amateur theatre shows.

Conditions of admission

Acceptance of applicants for bachelor's studies is subject to successful completion of secondary school with a high school diploma and demonstration of abilities and personal disposition for the chosen study programme. In the event that the FDU admission interviews are held before the date of the applicant's final examination, the applicant is admitted to the study conditionally.

Conditional admission to study is conditional upon successful completion of the matriculation examination. The applicant must submit proof of the completion of full secondary education (matriculation certificate) within ten days of passing the matriculation examination, but no later than the deadline for enrolment.

The Faculty of Dramatic Arts determines additional conditions for admission to the study of individual study programmes in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and aptitudes are admitted to the study.
The conditions imposed and the method of verifying their fulfilment must enable the selection of applicants who demonstrate the highest level of talent, abilities, knowledge for study in the study programme.

The admission examination is designed to test the level of knowledge, talent, thinking, skills and abilities of the applicant in the light of the specific requirements that arise for the applicant from the chosen bachelor's degree programme.
The applicant may obtain a maximum of 100 points. A minimum of 65 points is required for admission.

The specific admission requirements, the form and framework content of the admission procedure, the list of recommended readings and the method of evaluating the results of the admission examination are published at www.fdu.aku.sk.

Consultations for all degree programmes will be arranged by individual arrangement with the Heads of Departments.

It is necessary to register for a consultation at least 5 working days before the announced date, as well as before
the date on individual request to the respective teacher at the published e-mail address.

After registration and evaluation of applications, applicants will be sent further necessary information about the admission procedure for individual study programmes, which will also be published on the AU website (www.fdu.aku.sk).

An application without a proof of payment of the administrative fee will be removed from the register.

Each applicant must undergo a talent entrance examination. The application must be sent for each study programme separately.
The Dean of the Faculty is responsible for the preparation, organization, conduct and completion of the admission procedure.

The lists of admitted and non-admitted candidates for the study of Bachelor's degree programmes will be published on the FDU AU website within 48 hours of its completion at www.fdu.aku.sk - NEWS

General information on the admission exam

An applicant with a disability, upon his/her request for a modification of the form and manner of the entrance examination to take into account his/her specific needs, FDU AU shall determine the form of the entrance examination and the manner of its administration, taking into account his/her health problems.

In order to apply the same evaluation criteria to all applicants for studies at FDU AU, it is not possible to determine an alternative date for the admission examination.
In an exceptional situation (state of emergency, bad pandemic situation, etc.), the examination board may decide to hold the admission examination online.



Form of entrance exam

Talent Exam

  • written papers ( compulsory papers, tests /creative, knowledge),
  • oral interview (on the sent written analysis of the dramatic text, assessment of talent disposition for the study of the chosen field).


Tests
  • knowledge test (requires a general cultural, historical and social overview and basic knowledge of theatre),
  • creative test (reveals the candidates' dispositions and is used for peer comparison).
