Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is the completion of the study programme of the second degree of study according to Article 3 (1) of the Regulations of the Admission Procedure at STU Bratislava.

For applicants who have achieved the required education abroad, the basic condition of admission is the recognition that the successfully passed final examination and the documents confirming the completed degree of study correspond to the required degree of education.

For foreign nationals who apply to study degree programmes in Slovak or English (No 22 of the STU Statute), the provisions of point a) shall apply mutatis mutandis.

Another condition for admission to doctoral studies in all study programmes at the Faculty of Architecture of STU is successful completion of the entrance examination.

Only graduates of a related discipline can be admitted to doctoral studies.

Conditions for international students

Basic conditions for study admission

The basic requirement for the PhD study admission is a Master degree or equivalent in accordance with Article 3 (1) of the Order for Admission Procedure at STU in Bratislava.

For applicants who graduated from foreign universities, the basic requirement for admission is the acknowledgement of documents that confirm the required level of education and successful final examination. 

Foreign citizens who apply for the study of the provided study programmes in Slovak or English languages  the Article 22 of the STU Statute, the provision of point a), is applied adequately. 

Further admission requirements

Another requirement for the PhD study admission within all the stated study programmes at the FA STU is the successful pass of the admission examination.

For the PhD study within the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning, History and Theory of Fine Arts and Architecture, and Design, only the graduates from the related fields can be admitted.

The fee for foreign non-EU applicants:  6 500,- €

General information on the admission exam

1. Framework content of the exam:

The entrance examination takes the form of an oral interview preceded by a test of foreign language skills. The examination will test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of the subjects in the field of engineering or master's study that are related to the chosen doctoral programme and the chosen dissertation topic. The aim of the admission procedure is to ascertain the applicant's aptitude for independent creative activity in the field of science and technology, as well as to determine the appropriate level of his/her professional knowledge.

1. Method of evaluation of the results of the admission examination:

Determination of ranking (based on the scores of the level of expertise, the results of the study and the language tests).

Through the website of FA STU and on the notice board of doctoral studies at FA STU.
