Prospects of graduates

The study programme in veterinary nursing is aimed at acquiring knowledge in the field of intensive care of pets. The student acquires basic knowledge in the field of pathological changes in dead animals, learns about necrobiotic processes occurring in the body, recognizes acute and chronic inflammation and the possibilities of healing by regeneration and repair, has knowledge about the characteristics of tumors, developmental anomalies and immune disorders, is able to interpret pathogenetic mechanisms in the context of disease processes, has knowledge of investigative diagnostic methods, has basic knowledge of parasitic and infectious diseases of companion animals, is proficient in the management of veterinary reception and first contact with patients and clients. The student will master outpatient laboratory techniques, record keeping and management of therapy administration for individual diseases, preventive veterinary health programs for puppies, adult and aging patients, and special needs patients, gain knowledge of the management of care for handicapped, abandoned, and zoo animals, and have a basic understanding of the management of care for the hospitalized patient.

Conditions of admission

Admission to study at UVLF in Košice is conditional on obtaining full secondary education or full secondary vocational education and successfully passing the entrance examination. The order of applicants will be determined on the basis of the number of points achieved in the biology test and the evaluation of active participation in secondary school Olympiads for 1st to 3rd place and in the SOT from the profile subject (biology), work in organizations professionally close to the chosen study program (work at private veterinarians focused on small animals or horses, which lasted at least half a year) and other prerequisites, which the student must document in writing to the application form.

The student must also submit a written application to the university.



Conditions for international students

Admission conditions are the same as for Slovak students.

The study is conducted in Slovak language only.
