Applied Biology
Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Biology will acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge, experience and habits that will enable them to:
understand the essential facts, principles and theories in biology,
know the connections between biology and other natural science disciplines,
be able to orient themselves in natural science disciplines,
have basic knowledge and from it be able to acquire, sort, process and use in-depth information from relevant databases and use them in solving tasks of basic and applied biological research,
be able to interdisciplinary research and know the nature of natural, technical and social processes taking place around us,
have the ability to make decisions when solving problems and designing measures,
be able to design and process innovative measures and changes in practice into a documentary form,
create projects, obtain project funding and successfully implement them in practice,
use existing and newly acquired knowledge of others and their own in a targeted way to creatively seek solutions that objectively move the current state of sustainable regional development forward.
Graduates of the study programme can seek employment in a wide range of workplaces with a biological and chemical focus, in research teams and in independent work with a research and technical focus (SAV, universities, health, agriculture and forestry, food industry, environment, etc.). They are prepared to meet the requirements of specialized institutions requiring field work, especially in microbiological, molecular-biological laboratories and environmentally-ecologically oriented workplaces; they will also be employed in state and local government institutions and in private companies with a research-technological orientation. 90% of the students go on to pursue a 2nd degree in Biology or a related field.

The basic condition for admission to the bachelor's programme is the acquisition of a complete secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education (§ 56 (1)). 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts).
The admission procedure takes place without an entrance examination.
For the admission of an applicant to the Bachelor's study programme, the data on the course of studies at secondary school will be decisive.
In determining the score, the following is taken into account at the same time:
- the study average at secondary school without the matriculation examination,
- the result of the matriculation examination.
Students who have completed their studies at foreign universities, foreign students, submit nostrified documents on completed studies in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Documents on Education and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts.
Additional information
The application form must include:
- CV,
- proof of payment of the admission fee,
- high school report cards for 1-4. year officially certified (registrar/notary)
- high school leaving certificate officially certified (registrar/notary)
An applicant who is graduating in the school year 2024/2025 shall list on the application form the grades from the end-of-year leaving certificates for grades 1.-3.
In the case of a five-year course of study, he/she writes out the grades for the 2nd-4th year, which he/she has the secondary school certify in the application form, or he/she submits the officially certified (by the registry office/notary) certificates mentioned above in the application form.

Conditions for international students
Admission conditions for international students are the same as for students from the Slovak Republic. The condition of admission to the study programme conducted in Slovak language is the knowledge of Slovak language at the level enabling the study in Slovak language.
Foreign applicants prove their knowledge of the language with a Certificate of Slovak language proficiency at the B2 level.
