Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the Master's degree programme in Teaching English Language and Literature and Education for Citizenship is able to use the English language at least at the C1+ level, is able to explain the theoretical background of education and education, has the ability to integrate knowledge from the field of education for citizenship, which mainly includes knowledge from the humanities and social sciences. After graduation, he/she can work independently as a teacher in the second cycle of primary education (lower secondary education teacher) and as a secondary school teacher (lower secondary education teacher, secondary vocational education teacher, upper secondary general education teacher, upper secondary general education teacher and higher vocational education teacher). He has developed independent learning skills that allow him to pursue further self-study.

Conditions of admission

Basic condition of admission
Basic condition of admission to the master's degree (second
degree study programme) is the acquisition of a first degree (Act on Higher
Schools No. 131/2002 Coll., as amended) in the same field of study
or in a study programme or in a study programme related in content to the study programmes (in the study programme in media studies and cultural heritage). In the case of a foreign applicant or a student who has completed his/her studies abroad, he/she shall submit with his/her application for higher education studies, no later than at the time of enrolment, a decision on the recognition of the document on graduation from higher education of the first degree by the relevant institution in the Slovak Republic.
The foreign applicant shall submit a certificate of the required language level B1, according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages, in the Slovak language. In the event that he does not have such a certificate, he/she shall take a test on the date of the admission examination for meeting the above required level of the Slovak language. The test will be prepared, implemented and evaluated by the Institute of Lifelong Learning of the University of Žilina in Žilina.

Other admission requirements for the study programme Teaching English Language and Literature and Education for Citizenship

The condition of admission to the 2nd level of university studies is the completion of the 1st level of studies in the same study programme. Graduates of the UNIZA Faculty of Arts with a study average of up to 1.75 will be admitted without entrance examinations. Other applicants with a lower average or applicants from other faculties and universities will take an entrance (colloquial) examination to verify their eligibility to graduate from the second cycle of studies.

The entrance examination will be oral and will consist of three parts

in English:

1. Discussion of the final Bachelor's thesis

2. Linguistics

3. British and American Realities and Literature

Citizenship Education will consist of three parts:

1. Discussion of the final undergraduate thesis

2. Didactics of education for citizenship

3. The field of humanities and social sciences

The admission requirements are evaluated by an admissions committee appointed by the dean of the faculty.

Conditions for international students

For foreign applicants, the admission conditions apply as for applicants from the Slovak Republic. Foreign students studying in Slovak language do not pay tuition fees. Applicants from the Czech Republic may use the form valid in the Czech Republic to apply for studies. For foreign applicants admitted on the basis of interstate agreements, bilateral treaties or for scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the conditions specified in the relevant documents apply.

Method of payment: Payment can be made by bank transfer or postal order to the above account. The name of the payer/candidate should be mentioned when making the payment.

Proof of payment: Proof of payment should be sent to the faculty address along with the application form.

If you are interested in more than one study program, you must apply for each study program separately with payment of the appropriate fee.

In case of non-participation or failure in the admission procedure, the faculty does not refund the admission fee. If a candidate wishes to participate in the admission procedure at more than one faculty or programme of the faculty of UNIZA, the application must be submitted separately for each faculty and programme with payment of the relevant fee.
