Agrarian Trade and Marketing

Graduates of the study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing, in the doctoral studies, acquire professional orientation and competence to perform professions requiring the application of scientific methods of research and prediction of economics and marketing of enterprises. Philosophiae Doctor (PhD.) in the study programme "Agrarian Trade and Marketing" after completing the 3rd degree of study, he/she masters scientific methods of research of marketing environment and market data, methods of stimulation and verification of marketing solutions, analysis, interpretation and application of research results of consumer and business subjects, critical assessment and creative solution of complex problems of marketing and business systems. Further, the student is proficient in the methodology and methods of scientific work, formulating and testing scientific hypotheses with market and consumer experiments to develop and advance scientific knowledge in the field.



Prospects of graduates

Graduates of the doctoral study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing have advanced knowledge, skills and competences, thanks to which they are able to carry out original empirical research in the field of marketing, business and consumer behaviour and acquire professional orientation and competence to carry out professions requiring the application of scientific research methods in the context of current knowledge, which they are able to move forward with their contribution. Graduates are able to work in international academic environments, in public and private research institutions, as public policy makers in the field of trade with a specific focus on the agrarian sector, or in management positions in multinational companies. Graduates are able to carry out their own research project, coordinate the work of a research team and, last but not least, transfer the acquired knowledge and expertise into the educational process at a university or private educational institution.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission under Section 56(4) of Act No.131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts is the completion of a second-degree study programme in the same or a related field of study. The following is a condition for admission:

1. completeness of the application form (application form + annexes to the application form) for doctoral studies, where the annexes to the application form are:

  • resume signed by the applicant,
  • document of education at the 2nd cycle of higher education (hereinafter referred to as 2nd cycle)

a) for educational documents issued by a higher education institution in the Slovak Republic or the Czech Republic, a certified copy of the diploma and a copy of the state examination certificate and the supplement to the diploma of the 2nd level of studies shall be submitted,
b) for educational documents issued by a foreign higher education institution (except in the cases referred to in point a), a certified copy of the diploma and the supplement to the diploma shall be submitted2. degree; the documents must be officially translated into the Slovak language and the diploma of completion of the 2nd degree recognised in the Slovak Republic(Recognition of higher education)

  • motivation letter,
  • framework project on the dissertation topic (includes a description of the theoretical and methodological background of the chosen dissertation topic (DP) + the candidate's anticipated procedure for the development of the DP),
  • developed presentation on the dissertation topic,
  • copy of the proof of payment of the admission fee.

2. attendance of the candidate at the entrance examination on the given date.

The graduate of the doctoral study programme Agrarian Business and Marketing has advanced knowledge, skills and competences, thanks to which he/she is able to carry out original empirical research in the field of marketing, business and consumer behaviour and acquires professional orientation and competence to carry out professions requiring the application of scientific research methods in the context of current knowledge, which he/she is able to move forward with his/her contribution. Graduates are able to work in international academic environments, in public and private research institutions, as public policy makers in the field of trade with a specific focus on the agrarian sector, or in management positions in multinational companies. Graduates will be able to carry out their own research project, coordinate the work of a research team and, last but not least, transfer the acquired knowledge and expertise to the educational process at a university or private educational institution.



Conditions for international students

An applicant who has completed his/her studies at a recognised university abroad must submit an officially certified decision on the recognition of a document of education issued by a competent authority in the Slovak Republic (recognised university or the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic) in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of documents of education and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on the amendment and supplementation of certain acts, as amended.

Foreign applicants (the exception is applicants from the Czech Republic) who will study a study programme provided in Slovak language at SPU in Nitra must compulsorily pass an online test aimed at determining the level of their linguistic competence in the Slovak language. The testing is provided by the SPU Nitra Language Centre on two dates: 28.5.2024 and 23.7.2024. On the basis of the test results, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of his/her language proficiency level (levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The test and the certificate are subject to a fee (test: EUR 20,-, certificate: EUR 10,-).

If the applicant's level of linguistic competence is below A1, the applicant will not be admitted to the course. If the applicant's language proficiency level is A1, the applicant has fulfilled one of the conditions for admission to the study, but will be required to attend a 30-hour paid Slovak language course organised by the Centre of Languages of the SPU in Nitra (course fee: EUR 120). The course will run from 26.8.2024 - 6.9.2024. Upon completion of the course, the applicant will be issued with a certificate of completion. If the applicant's level of language proficiency is A2 or above, the applicant has fulfilled one of the admission requirements.

FURTHER CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDY

1. Admission to doctoral studies shall be by means of entrance examinations.

2. Admission examinations shall be held before an examination board of at least four members. It shall consist of a chairperson and at least three members appointed and dismissed by the Dean of the Faculty. The exact composition of the Board of Examiners will be determined after the closing date for applications. The interview will be conducted either in person or by online interview on the day of the entrance examination, as decided by the Dean of the FEM.

3. During the entrance examination, the examination committee takes into account the candidate's professional knowledge of the chosen study programme, prerequisites for independent scientific work and activities in study and scientific activities during the previous stages of study.

4. The applicant shall demonstrate the ability to study in a foreign language by means of the entrance examination. The entrance examination will be conducted in the form of communication in a foreign language on a selected part of the presented project (point 5, letter b).

5. Content of the entrance examination in the form of an oral interview.

a) Presentation of the project on the selected topic of the dissertation (home preparation of maximum 10 minutes presentation) - the aim of the work, the reason for choosing the topic of the dissertation, the applicant's assumptions for the research of the topic, literature review, preliminary proposal of the methodology, methods of obtaining background data, etc.

b) Communication in a foreign language on the selected part of the presented project.

6. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Acts, as amended by later regulations, with the following aspects:

  • social aspects,
  • physically handicapped applicants,
  • interest of foreign Slovaks,
  • regional aspect (acceptance of economically lagging and structurally weak regions in the appeal procedure).

An applicant with a disability shall, at his/her request, have the form of the entrance examination and the manner in which it is to be conducted determined, taking into account his/her disability.

7. The Examination Board shall evaluate the result of the admission examinations in closed session. If more than one candidate for the same dissertation topic takes part in the entrance examinations, the examination board shall determine the order of merit of the candidates according to the result of the entrance examinations. In the event that, for a given study programme, the selected students fill the numbers above the normative numbers, the candidates shall be reassigned to the study programme where the normative numbers have not been filled.

8. A record of the result of the entrance examinations shall be made, which shall include a summary of the scores obtained for each item as well as the ranking according to the total number of points obtained. The minutes and their annexes shall be signed by the chairman of the examination board and handed over to the dean of the faculty.

9. Within 30 days of the admission interview, the Dean of the Faculty shall decide whether or not to accept the applicant.
