Prospects of graduates

The PhD programme prepares future graduates to be able to design and conduct innovative and high quality research in the context of international research in the field of social work. In the third cycle of study, the focus is on a thorough orientation in past and current trends, philosophical concepts and theories of social work, together with their application to the chosen field of research, while emphasis is also placed on the intersection of the various scientific disciplines and the resulting interdisciplinary aspect. The student acquires a broad professional knowledge of the field of study, which serves as a basis for conducting research and creating new knowledge in the field of social work.
The graduate of the doctoral program in social work is characterized by critical, divergent and analytical thinking, which he/she applies during his/her research work, pedagogical activities, and in society as a whole. He/she is able to set research objectives, formulate hypotheses and research questions, choose specific scientific research methods, adequately and eruditely interpret results, compare them with other research and present scientific research activities with clear argumentation in front of the scientific, professional and lay community in Slovakia and abroad. On the basis of own research findings, he/she is able to propose and implement new research or practical procedures in a given field and coordinate team research work.

Conditions of admission

A graduate of the second cycle of university studies of the study programme Social Work, as well as a graduate of related fields of study, may apply for admission to the doctoral studies. The faculty will announce the topics of dissertations before the admission procedure for doctoral studies. Applicants for doctoral studies are invited to apply for these topics. A supervisor is appointed for each of the announced topics, who is a full-time employee of the faculty and approved by the Scientific Council. If necessary, the student may also be assigned a specialist supervisor, who must also be approved by the Scientific Council. The faculty, in agreement with the relevant supervisors of the field, may also accept a topic proposed by the applicant.



Additional information

Applicants who have completed their 2nd degree in the academic year 20021/2022 and earlier will send all necessary attachments with their application.
Applicants who will complete their 2nd degree in the academic year 2022/2023 will submit all necessary attachments except for the evidence of completion of their 2nd degree (diploma, certificate, diploma supplement) - these documents will be submitted no later than the day of the entrance examination.

3. certified documents of the completion of the 2nd level of education - diploma, certificate and diploma supplement (applies to applicants who graduated in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
applicants who will finish the 2nd level of education in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
applicants who will finish the 2nd level of education in the academic year 2021/2022 and earlier
2. degree in the academic year
2022/2023 shall provide a confirmation of school attendance and a statement of the results of
studies for the closed period
4. a project on the topic of the dissertation
5. participation in the SVOČ, awards received for studies, the applicant's own publishing activity, etc.
6. Completion of an indication of the foreign language in which the candidate will take the language examination

Conditions for international students

Graduates of foreign universities with adequate scope and content of studies who have nostrified diplomas may also apply for admission. If the applicant has completed his/her higher education studies abroad, the procedure is in accordance with Act No 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Qualifications and the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts and the procedures for the recognition of studies and documents of the University of Trnava in Trnava. If such a student wishes to study in Slovak language, he/she must prove his/her knowledge of the language when defending his/her research project.

Form of entrance exam

The entrance examination consists of :

a) Written examination of Language Competence (working with a professional foreign language text)- constitutes 0-20% of the total mark - max. 60 points

b) Written research project proposal (0- 40%) - max 40 points

c) Oral presentation of the research proposal (0-40%) - max 150 points Applicants will be selected and admitted on the basis of their performance.
